First ran into him at a Parade in the early 70's- being a med student at the time I remembered him being a chain smoker and worrying about his health. Later at several War Bonnett tech sessions in the 80's I was glad to see he had quit smoking so we could benefit from his knowledge for a longer period of time.
He had forgotten more about Porsche engines than most of us would ever know. Luckily he's written enough so his knowledge will carry on.
RIP.

I got to meet and talk to Bruce a number of times over the years, he was without a doubt one of the most knowledgeable Porsche people I have ever met, and he loved our marque and gave us all a great legacy to live up to, share your knowledge and you are never gone, RIP Bruce.

Bruce was a great guy. Years ago, probably 1980 or so, I wanted to see Garretson Enterprises and drove over and as I walked into the garage met Bruce. He was alone and had no idea who I was, but we got talking and he started showing me all manner of racing engines and parts. I learned a lot.
I recall he showed me one of the early 906 oil filter consoles that bolted to where the oil cooler goes on a street 911. These filters have a stack of fine screen filters that can be disassembled. He picked one up and said "this came off an engine we just got back from our Le Mans car". He proceeded to open it and inside it looked like it had lots of machining swarf from a lathe in it. We both looked at it silently and he said something like "amazing"...the car had after all finished the race.

RIP Bruce - had the pleasure of talking Porsche with him several times, and took his and gerry woods engine rebuilding course - very solid upright guy and a total porsche nut! I I know his illness has been ongoing for a while now, so hopefully he is in a better place now.. Rest well Bruce!
