96 993 Fuse Box - What is this wire?

Default 96 993 Fuse Box - What is this wire?

Can anyone tell me the purpose of this black wire coming out of this relay? In the next photo, note the date stamp on the fuse board.
Due to the neatness and care taken in potting the tapped in wire; I am left wondering if this is a factory fix or change from year 95 to 96?
Can anyone please shed some light on this?

The first thing I spotted. It has been replaced, but why?

Where does the other end of the black wire go? Does your car have an aftermarket alarm?

BTW, one fuse is in backwards.

Alex,

I think I see the fuse--is it a 7.5 amp? Does it matter if a fuse is in backwards to the others, or is it just esthetic?

Yes, it matters - it's DC.

The electrons end up flowing backwards and the result is a matter anti-matter conflict.

I'm just joking and whoever lined up those fuses so nicely...missed one.

You guys are making game of me. I know that electricity always flows downhill, no matter if its AC or DC (Brian Johnson excepted).

just be sure that the gearbox fuse is not backwards, otherwise you will get 6 reverse gears and only one forward

What is the relay number and can you follow the lead to its destination? Could be for an amp or hardwired radar detector set up.

From the initial collective responses, I gather this may not have been some sort of factory fix for the 96?
Yes, as I previously indicated, the board has OBVIOUSLY been replaced since a date stamped board
(03/00) could not have been as installed from a 96 factory produced car.
The wire is fed across the top and under the baard and into a wire harness plug in the bottom.
I rectified the backwards fuse since it is wired to the flux capacitor which could result in catastropic time warp...Any serious ideas or thoughts would be appreciated...

this is likely for a kill switch from a car that was racing. It was very common to make a jumper into the relay to cut fuel or DME on the kill switch. I think I still have the same relay from my old setup before I added Motec.

From what I can tell, that wire goes into the horn relay. That is why I asked if you have an aftermarket alarm...that you might not know about.

As for the fuse, I just pointed it out since the rest of them were all oriented in one way very nicely. Someone made a joke of it and we had a bit of fun.

To my knowledge the car has never been raced or tracked, and no radar detector that I am aware of, is/was installed.

I laughed at the backward fuse comment, so it was taken with the same intent as delivered :-)

My real issue is an apparent short that affects the glove box light, trunk light, and ready state light for the immobilizer on the speedo. I am trying (unsuccessfully) to program additional immobilizer remotes as a backup to the one single working remote that I have. Without the feedback of the immobilizer light on the speedo, I don't know if I am being successful in the programming procedure.

Seems kinda stupid that such a significant feedback light is on the same circuit as insignifcant lights for glovebox, and trunk. :-(

I took a quick look at the fuse box in my race car. There are two relays setup this way. One is for the DME circuit for a kill switch and the other is as Mike suggested in R23 horn location. I think if you check the factory service bulletins you may find a dealer update was done to your horn circuit. Here is what mine looks like.

I was looking at this old thread bc my car has the exact same white relay with a black wire coming out of it .....
