Talking CamsPorsche - New Bike Rack!

Santa brought me a www.seasucker.com bike rack!

Love it! Mounts in literally 2 mins and works like a charm. What's cool about it is that you can also remove the rack at your destination if you wish and ZERO wind noise!

You have to mount bikes rear facing as the roof on the 993 seems too flimsy to have all of the suction weight above (I'm sure it would have been fine but too much flex for my likey). If anyone wants close ups then let me know.

Looks good, but if you think the roof is flimsy, you should read all the threads about the delicate rear window breaking, often with no help from a bicycle or anything else.

Looks cool. I would definitely be worried about cornering load, but I worry about it with my Sequoia/Yakima rig.

Cool set up. I know that when I carry my hockey gear on the roof rack, the rack really moves around back and forth and this is something to be concerned about. I know others have said that of course.

I look forward to hearing how this works long term as I want to get a small single rack for my road bike.

By the way, last week someone stole the Thule claws and Yakima rack cage off the roof of my car when I was doing errands. Be careful!

I wouldn't ever use that kind of mouning. That's beyond dangerous.
There's plenty of tests with suction cups on cars. Do a little search and you'll understand.
Please show us the after the fact pics too. I hope nobody gets hurt when your bike comes flying.

Cam, why the change?
Swapping the Thule off/on is a pain. I've had mine off once in the last year. I use the rack about once a week, so I leave it on and check it for tightness before each use.
The SeaSucker would greatly reduce off/on time.
I think if you keep the mating surfaces clean and in good condition, you'll be fine.
Like you, I bag my front wheel and toss it in the car.
I'm looking forward to your 6 month review!

can't you put your gear inside, and keep the windows opened?

Guys I bought it for my lightweight road bike not my full suspension mtb so I'm hopeful that the rack will be fine.

At a 92km race I was at two weeks ago I had my GTI and a guy with the new 991 pulled up in front of me with the rack. He was telling me that he'd had the car up to 90mph with no issue (was he lucky?) and when you mount it, its really strong! I can sway my car side to side if I really hoof on it.

Anyway I'm keeping the Thule for now and will continue using this seasucker and report back.

Any update on this? I'm looking at buying a new Cayman and it looks like Porsche did away with the roof rack mounting holes.

Increased point loads will eventually cause deflection in the roof or the rear windshield. I'd stick to the gutter style racks for better load distribution!

For a road bike the seasucker is perfect however for anything heavier I wouldn't do it and stick with the Thule rack.

Its a shame I'm not in NA as I'll have my 993 Thule Rack on here for sale come end of August when our container of household goods arrives in Canada....
