Anybody ever come across a small WALL MOUNT 120V compressor? Just something to pump up tires, that's all I need. I'm envisioning something no bigger than a loaf of bread.

?????
If you just want to inflate tires, then you could try this one. It's not a wall mount but it is relatively small. I got one about a year ago, I think, and have been pretty happy with it.

My next air compressor will be this one.

Amazon Amazon

I want to mount it up in my garage attic with a retractable 25 ft hose. It will replace an 8 gal, 3 HP that has served me for years, but, it is so noisy enough to wake up the entire neighborhood.

2.3 CFM @ 90psi will not power much, most tools are around 5CFM.

True. I use a compressor mainly to inflate tires and for cleaning/drying things. The reviews are good and it apparently fills up quickly. Most important for me is the quiet operation since my garage is attached to my home.

I had a 5 gallon Home Depot / Husky compressor that died after just a few years.

I want to get an oiled 20 gallon upright on wheels, but I'm worried that it'll just be another crappy throw away unit.

I have a 2.6 gallons Makita MAC700 air compressor, it is very quiet, almost no sound. It can run most air tools, I always use it to tire inflation, painting ......

Pay particular attention to the rated quantity of air it can deliver, usually expressed as CFM @ XX PSI or SCFM @ XX PSI. Most of the time they're rated at 90 or 100 psi, the higher flow number the better. Spray guns, DA sanders, blasters, etc. all like lots of air and you'd want something that can come close to 20 CFM/SCFM @ 90 or 100 PSI to operate these.

If you want something to run tools and that you won't outgrow, shoot for a 60 Gallon vertical single stage compressor, probably around 5 hp. Also look that the manufacturer supports the pump with rebuild items such that you can refresh it down the road if need be. This way it will last you forever with care. You'll be into a grand for such a unit.

I have an Eagle compressor and its excellent. I thought I was going overkill but now that I have it I wouldn't want a smaller one. Mines 80 gal, 7.5 horsepower and flows a whopping 30SCFM @ 100 PSI. It needs a 40 amp breaker but I've never had an issue with other circuits on my measly 100 amp service.

I bought this one from Harbor Freight 2 years ago. Surprisingly reliable and works great.

I went with the same size, Rob. You need lots of air to run a media blast cabinet.

I bought an RK Compressor 7.5 HP, 80 gallon with a V-four 2-stage pump that puts out 24 CFM @ 150 PSI. It is a quiet unit with the pump running at a mere 560 RPM.

It weighs a whopping 717 pounds and had to be taken down into the basement in 3 stages; the pump alone weighing 309 pounds.

I really like Quincy, have the 80 gallon 5hp in the garage, as quiet as you can get since it has low rpms. this is one of those, life purchases in my mind. I have a 25 gallon porter cable that is oil less and noisy as all get out that I use in the house garage to fill tires it doesn't have enough juice for impact guns or stuff that use a ton of cfm like sanders or grinders.

Alex, that's a nice rig. The two stage is nice as its much quieter/smoother running. The downside to mine is its quite loud being a single stage, its like a Harley motor idling in the garage.

I know what you mean with the mass of these things, I arrived to pick mine up and found it had to go down a flight of stairs. No tools so a buddy and I had to wrestle the 500lb lump down the stairs and onto a trailer.

I have the Bon-Aire Goodyear i8000 for this purpose
http://www.amazon.com/Goodyear-i8000-120-Volt-Direct-Inflator/dp/B003XGYDE2# http://www.amazon.com/Goodyear-i8000-120-Volt-Direct-Inflator/dp/B003XGYDE2#
. It works well enough, and is about the size of a loaf of bread. It's not designed to be wall mounted, but from what I remember of the rubber feet on it, it should be easy to adapt to wall mount.

I have a small one car garage. I need something powerful enough to handle most DIY basic stuff for my 993. I was reading the SAI cleaning DIY and realized that it would be helpful for that and for so many other tasks.

When I started looking at all the choices my head started spinning. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I really appreciate it.
Michael

don't buy an "oil-less" compressor unless you love NOISE.
they are good for tyre inflation and blowing water off the car.
pretty feeble for running tools

Michael,
What are you really going to use it for? If you see yourself using it for pneumatic tools or media blasting then get something big. If you are inflating car and bike tires and the occasional kids' toy. I would recommend going to Sears and getting one of the small Craftsmen air compressors. Since space is a major issue something big you don't use will just take up more of your limited space.
Thanks,
--Joe
