Koni vs. stock Monroes
Would be really interested to hear from anyone who's changed out their Monroes for the Konis. There's another thread going at the moment regarding Konis on sale so thought I'd throw this out.
When I got the car the seller had just installed new stock Monroes and for as few a miles as I drive yearly they will last me a very long time. That being said, do the FSDs ride or really handle that much better to warrant changing? I don't track the car so are they worth the time and expense?

I installed a set of FSD's along with M029 RoW standard springs this past Saturday. The drop is perfect, two finger gap all around, and the ride is amazing. I can't really say what it's like if you have a working set of Monroe's, mine were completely shot, but I would say that the Koni's are perfect for street driving. Very comfortable over bumps yet firm and sporty on the highway. I probably wouldnt switch if you had working shocks, but if you needed replacements I would highly recommend them. My daily is an e46 coupe with the sports package and I would say they feel pretty similar from a comfort standpoint, and slightly more firm when the road is smooth. There is more body control when driving aggressive, though part of that is due to being a sports car vs sedan. My sig pic btw is pre install, I'll have to update it.

Do Koni's come with extra thread length for additional height adjustment? I was planning on Bilstein HD to replace my factory Euro M030 shocks, but might consider the Koni FSD's if they're just as adjustable.

Good questions... I'd reach out to Gert at http://www.carnewal.com - My guess,, Gert's the defacto burning bush on the subject when fitting various OE spring heights and the newer Koni FSD product.
Try checking Koni's "world" web-site for applications....
As an aside, its been more than ten years since having the ROW M033 springs installed and fitted over the OEM Monroe's. 30K + miles and 11 years later of this combo and yeah,,,, its time for new shocks on the 993. - I'm leaning towards the FSDs.
The Koni FSD fitted to the MkV chassis VW GTI and GLI sedan's I've driven were impressive..

Checked the TireRack website. FSD description says "For models 95-98 excl Bilstein OE sport susp".
Does that mean they won't work with M030, or just Euro M030 due to lower height?
I have the Euro M030, and that statement makes me cautious. I'll send Gert a note, since I bought the Euro M030 from him over 10 years ago. He won't remember the transaction, but he'll be as helpful as always regardless.

The only problem I see with the Konis is you can't get the car low enough, for me anyways.30 MM, max is only about 1 1/4 inches lower.I want my car to sit at about RS +5 or+10MM.
Here is some info on Konis.Too bad they aren't adjustable
The Koni FSD shocks have an automatic damping and work great with the M033 lowering springs.
For every '94 to '98 C2 and C4 including the "S" models.
This setup lowers the car 20-30mm from standard and gives a comfortable ride".

This
FSDs are not height adjustable.
The front struts are adjustable for corner balancing but height is dictated by springs installed
You cannot go lower than ROW height
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
Depends on the height you are looking for.

Does that imply h&r 29953 won't work with this since h&r is lower than ROW M030 spring....
