So the cops are beginning to catch speeding cars on our highways. I thought a good radar detector would do, but a friend told me, I need a lazer jammer. Something that you install in the bumper. I dont know anything about it, so I could appreciate some help here

9500 Ci is there most expensive @ $1,000

There are other variations of laser models which are non GPS and not as expensive.

Installing on a 993 will require removal of the front bumper since there is no alot of room or places to place these units on this car.

Having had the 9500ci on my other Porsche - my opinio in the the cost/benefit ratio for a jammer isn't very good.

Use a a detector, drive smart (don't spped where you don't have a clear view of what lies ahead, and you should be fine.

You might want to check some of the automotive magazines and see what their latest tests say (Car & Driver used to do them fairly regularly). Last I remember, they weren't that effective and in some states, the fines for using them are pretty steep.

In a few of states they are illegal. Had one on my Werks 1 Turbo. They are very good things to have, but there fines hefty! That car is gone now but it was cool! The radars were in the bumpers, front and rear, and there was a little light and a guy that talks when there is a cop or radar around. Just don't speed when you don't know where the police are!

I've done a good deal of research on the subject. The Laser Interceptor with the v8.9 dual heads is unequivocally superior. I've even done live testing on my car and properly placed regular (ie non high power) diodes will JTG against many of the latest lasers.

and I have looked into just about every gadget I could find for my car.

Ultimately my thoughts on a jammer were: even if it were 100% effective, if you are going THAT fast, I mean clearly passing cars, etc... No one needs a device to ID you, they will ID you regardless of what their detector/gun whatever says and pull you over.

Most of us has had the experience of cruising along in the number 1 lane, and some car/motorcycle goes FLYING by. It is easy to know they are way over the speed limit.

OTOH if you are going the flow of traffic, you probably won't stand out. just my 0.02.

the opportunity to be driving the speed limit and see the look on some officer's face when he reads out some insanely wrong value though would be PRICELESS.

Laser Interceptor. probably the best Laser Jammer.

1. laser detector sounds;

2. slam on brakes.

3. hit kill switch for both devices so the bastard can paint you and not be able to detect your detector.

Yep, Laser Interceptor is the #1 performing jammer. Blinders are pretty good and a less expensive option. Escort jammers are not worth the money.

Hopefully the US won't become like the Nanny country that is Australia. Covert speed cameras, fixed speed cameras and point to point speed cameras coupled with 100 km/h open highway speed limits makes for very frustrating driving. Radar detector of any kind (they are illegal to import) result in a $1500 fine. The cops here (in some areas) will run up and down a stretch of highway for hours in a covert car (like a Golf GTi) and ping people for doing 110km/h in a 100km/h zone. You spend a lot of time focussed on the speedo instead of the road. All in the name of road safety.

I understand that some of the Australian states, such as Victoria, are particularly tough on speeders. But at least you have those thousands of square kilometres of empty country, to exercise your cars.

The "laser pro park" (I think they may have changed the name to anti-laser) is worth every penny. It's all about revenue here- and a little protection goes a long way. This is where I purchased mine- check out the video of it working in an actual speed trap. They seem to only target from the front around here so I just have one mounted under the front plate (which is what they aim at). http://www.kmph.ca/products/laser-protection/

They say that this antilaser system is legal in Australia; http://www.dontgetcaught.com.au/alg9.html (No affiliation). I'm considering installing it. Have had good saves with an undetectable radar detector (Bel STI Driver) plus some common sense.

Hadn't seen that one before. Interesting, although it is not very conclusive about the alg9 effectiveness at blocking a reading from a laser gun. Has it been tested in Australia?
