Now if you can figure a way to do it without having I take the bezel off, you'd have something!
I chickened out after trying to pry off the bezel. Sent it to Hollywood Speedo and it came back almost perfect. Only one scratch that I put on the bezel.

Marc,
Thanks for the very informative and descriptive video DIY fix for the odo gear.
I think its VERY generous of you to take the time to video document such DIY's in order to share your discoveries that save time and $$$ for us all. In lieu of using a small screwdriver in prying the bezel, would it be better to use one of the tools from the plastic pry bar sets from Harbor Freight?

You are the MAN!
P.S. Tell your wife Patti and I said hello

Thanks for the video clip - it enabled me to play, pause, play as I walked through the steps.
On a related note, I thought I'd share a quick jury-rig note. In my case after reinstalling, cleaning, reinstalling, cleaning, inspecting reinstalling, my odo still didn't work. I was stumped.
After re-examining the alignment of all of the sprockets, I noticed that it wasn't aligning properly. The spring tension beneath the brown housing and rod that holds the odo gear was not providing enough spring tension to align the actual (black) trip odo and main odo gears.
I jury-rigged it by adding a small flat washer underneath the brown housing that holds the spring, giving it enough lift and clearance to align the gears.
I am assuming that the spring had lost its resiliency and not providing enough spring to align all of the sprocket gears. Hope that helps anyone that may encounter the same situation that I encountered.
P.S. I was surprised at all of the odo gear that was shredded and stuck to the various sprocket gears. Make sure that you've cleaned all of the stuck pieces of odo gear from all of the sprockets......

helpful
followed this today, getting the bezel off was a hassle and would be good to show how you put it back on - but otherwise it was straight forward and worked ... thanks for great demonstration

Since the bezel was pried up (un-swagged) with the small flat-head screwdriver, as seen in the video; one would simply slip the bezel back in place, face down, on a workbench with a towel down to protect the front of the bezel.
I used a hard plastic trim and molding tool from harbor freight to work my way around the bezel, pushing the alum back into a swagged state around the odometer.
You can also use a more robust tool like a dull chisel, swaging the bezel lip, back up over the rim of the odometer. NOTE* This method will require some touch up paint around the backside of the bezel.

great video thanks...
Just a tip prior to tightening the motor back on, make sure to wiggle the tenth digit on both the trip and the odometer while pushing in the motor to properly seat the large pod gear into place. The odometer didn't work properly on the first 2 installs because the gears were not seated.

Is the small planetary gear supposed to spin freely on the pod gear or is it supposed to be on there securely ? I only bought the small gear as the pod looked good but when I put the planetary gear on its sorta lose and I'm thinking will have no effect in its present state. Thinking I should crazy glue it to the pod? Am I missing something. I've had no success so far after trying taking it apart 2 times now. In fact I've lossed the lights now on the speedo and I'm going a bit crazy.

Great video.
I could not get myself to pry off the bezel. I tried a couple prys, but saw that it would leave marks. So only for that reason, I think sending to North Hollywood Speedo is worth it. There was not a mark on it when returned - except for the ones i left .

Has everyone been ordering the 16T sprocket for replacement?
I was hoping to have the parts BEFORE I open up the speedo. Mine broke today and I was hoping to get it ordered.
