1998 C2S or 1997 C4S
I'm looking at two great 993s. One is a '98 C2S and the other is a '97 C4S. One will be my first 993. I'm curious as to opinions on the differences, if any, between years and issues or differences between a C2S & C4S. Both are six speeds and under 50k mileage. Thanks.

Mach,
If you don't "need" AWD (for winter or for rough track driving), the 1998 C2S will probably be a bit more "nimble" than the C4S. Further, the 1998 C2S in particular has a better chance of higher resale value in the future.
There are no bad models of 993... all are fantastic. Just get a good example that has been well cared for. Don't forget the PPI.

For me personally, the C4S was my least favorite variant of the 993. I found it to be somewhat sluggish relative to the C2S. Now, if you have 400hp behind you, like you would in the twin turbo, AWD is perfectly fine and, at least for most drivers, even desirable. Good luck with your decision - this is the fun part!

Drifting
Obviously there are slight model variations between the two...but one is not
necessarily better than the other. I'd buy whatever car is in better condition first
and foremost.. And then based on the colour and options that appeal to you. Make
sure to get a proper pre purchase inspection and take it from there.

4S had the turbo's "big reds" and its suspension. basically all the features of the turbo, minus the turbo. and with just a lil over a 100lb penalty for having AWD, i say its worth it (grip and acceleration). if you plan to hang onto to it for a while, 2S will be worth more in the distant future (less were made).

Three Wheelin'
I drove my cab today -- after weeks behind the wheel of my c4s -- and let me tell you that the c4s feels heavier and sluggish. Still love the c4s, as it's my daily driver and I like the extra grip on the often wet and rainy roads around san francisco (although not this year). But, point being, there are differences between them.

In terms of performance, you won't notice any difference. The difference is small, and because you won't be driving both types of car, you won't have anything to compare it against.
Also, I have read that with these cars ( being 14 or so years old) every car drives a bit different any way, depending on condition etc. And this overrides the small differences between models.

Race Car
I went C4S for the big reds and suspension from the Turbo. I like knowing its basically a turbo without the turbo engine and awd is an added benefit if I take it in the snow.
Either will be fine!

I've always been curious about this...what exactly is different about the suspension? How does a turbo suspension differ from a non-turbo or non C4S?
I've always heard the same thing...Turbo without the turbo motor...but besides the big reds, what really is different?
thanks

Turbo without the turbo motor has always struck me as funny because the turbo motor is 99.99% of what makes the turbo better than a regular 993.
Anyway - drive both and decide for yourself which you want to own. Any difference in braking or performance due to different parts will be more than offset by differences in individual cars and you won't be able to feel the difference anyway.
Just buy the one that makes you happy.
