May I ask why you're considering the Monroes?

Bill, maybe Rob is considering Monroes because he likes that plush Cadillac ride after they give out 20k later

My RoW M030 Monroes: 45k miles and still going strong - and I have driven my car from California to Montreal and back, and drive my car every day, in a spirited fashion.

I'm pretty sure that, when I order my replacement set (in another 20k miles or so), someone in Germany will say, "That guy in California just bought another set!"

I have taken many, many gulps of rennlist koolaid, but, on this one, I willfully bought the Monroes just to be different, and to put myself in the hands of the Wizards of Weissach.

I am very pleased with my lowly RoW M030 Monroes. The car feels great - and, yes, I have driven 993s with HDs, and with PSS9s.

If you think about it, Monroes were in place when all of the glowing reviews for the 993 (from the automotive press) were given (when the car was new). It would be interesting to do a true, back-to-back comparison between the HDs and Monroes.

I sometimes wonder if just the U.S.-spec Monroes (and Boges?) were sub par.

This begs the question... Are there really ROW vs. US Monroe shocks? Is it just the spring that's different, but the shock is the same? I wonder if some who experienced early failure lowered the car using ROW or aftermarket springs and that caused the problem...

I have a set of M033 springs that just arrived and have been debating swapping just springs and "using up" the stock shocks (18k miles on them) or biting the bullet and also changing shocks "while the tech is there".

same here,,,,,,, since 2006. Need an alibi to go the blue way, nothing yet
.
.but owe readers to be extremely clear on issue. ROW car came with M033 option Boge green shocks.
8 years from new , the front shocks were rock solid, the rears were pivoting horizontally like a stick-shift.
the problem in general, is in the rears I think.

Ditto, ditto and ditto .. except I just turned 33K miles and when I put new HD's/H&R on my coupe, that lasted 500 miles before I yanked them and tried PSS10's. All told, that little Kool-Aid diversion cost me $5000 and I could have just put some R.O.W. Springs on that car, saved $4000 and been good to go. I'm quite satisfied with the M030/Monroe R.O.W. setup for a street car and the ride height/stance is perfect for that purpose IMHO.

My "black" shocks (Boge?) are in their 16th year. On the street, I'm not having any issues and when i do, I'll probably go with the Koni FSDs.

A local 993er gave me his old "green" shocks (Monroe?) and sure enough, the shaft of the rear units wobble like a shifter, as Geolab also stated. I only took them for dimensional purposes.

I'm immune to "koolaid"...on any forum. In most cases, far too much hype over nothing.

Damon - I've checked the Tire Rack site and never found the right FSD application. Other online retailers of Koni are selling them now for between $1039 and $1150 or so, but would love to see Tire Rack offer them for sub $1000. You don't have them on your site - please post how we can get them from you.
