Default Tire Reco for 993TT?

Need new rears so going to replace all four tires. Since starting with a clean slate, curious which tire make/model to put on the car?

Suggestions are deeply appreciated. Thank you, in advance

@ KaiB - car is purely for good weather, log about 1k miles per year, spirited driving but nothing crazy, no track time whatsoever

@ Tony Air C2S - problem is that the Super Sports aren't available in the OEM size yet

Looking at the following with Tire Rack pricing (includes delivery):

- Pirelli P-Zero Rosso Asymetrico - $1,245

- Bridgestone Potenza S-04 - $1,235

- Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus (Ultra High Performance All-Season) - $1,162

Continental ExtremeContact DW - $826

Tire Rack and the my local garage also recommended these:

- Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08 (Extreme Performance Summer) - $1,092

- Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 - $646

- Sumitomo HTR Z III (Max Performance Summer) - $700

I don't want to be unnecessary cheap, but the lesser known brands (Hankook and Sumitomo) are about half the price of the Pirelli, Bridgestone and Michelin counterparts. As mentioned above, I'm a Sunday driver and rack up about 1,000 miles per year. Enjoy the occasional burst of speed (love TORQUE!) but am not typically pushing the car hard through corners. Tires will not see rain or snow.

So.... what's a 993TT owner to do?

Please discuss. Most curious about your points of view?

Which brands and models would you personally recommend?

I have been very impressed with the value and performance proposition of the Kumho Ecsta SPT's on my 993TT. They were on my Turbo when I purchased from a Rennlister in 2009. Last year I replaced the rears (295/30/18) and this year I replaced all 4 (fronts are 235/40/18). I am 1 size up vs OEM spec. Wheels are also 1/2 wider then OEM spec.

I am certainly NOT over driving these tires or car. And I consider my driving style "spirited". Lots of highway (I'll regularly drive 200 miles to drive 100 miles of great courty roads). No rain. Have only ever done 2 DE's (to learn car and safety).

Why would you spend almost double for maybe 10% more performance, if that?

I bought the Sumi HTRZ IIIs and have been very happy. Unless you are very rich and dont care, or are a master driver of epic proportions, I doubt you'd see much difference. Save the $500 and try the Sumis or Hankooks, in my opinion.

You can get the Kumhos in 225/40/18 (stock size) and the rears in 295/30/18 (1 size up from the 285/30/18). And be just fine. Fronts are about $112 and rears are about $220. From Tire Rack.

The rears are not available in this size (285/30/18). The fronts are OK (225/40/18).

I just put P Zero Roso's on my TT a few months back. So far so good with not so many miles yet... I went with stock sizing as well and purchased from Tire Rack for about $12-1300...

Keep in mind, most tires require about 200-500 miles to "scrub in" and get the mold release worn off. So, you many not see optimum new tire performance for about 6 months. So, don't make any quick judgements with the new shoes. Or, take a nice road trip.

I'm sold on the idea of not overpaying for tires with performance beyond my driving style. Thank you for the quality advice.

@ goofballdeluxe - the Sumi HTRZ IIIs are well-rated on Tire Rack. Thanks for the reco!

@ No HTwo O - is the Khumo model you're thinking of slightly larger than the OEM size? (Not easily finding it on Tire Rack)

And, what would be the primary differences between these two brands?

Correct, to have the 4 tires matched, you need to go up one size in the rears. You can either run:

225/40/18 and 295/30/18

or

235/40/18 and 295/30/18

I run the Yokohama AD08's on my C2S. It is mostly a weekend car but I do some autocross with it and these tires are excellent. I run 235/40-18's front and 295/30-18's rear.
