Default 996/997 seats, another attempt. Need help!

Well, I have not given up completely yet. It appears that there is, after all, a fairly easy way to bolt the fully electric 996/997 seats into a 993 by making a pair of brackets per seat (thanks to another Rennlister who did that and sent me pics!).

Now comes the question of heat and other connections. Thus the questions:

1. Can someone with a 996/Boxster seat possibly make a picture of the heater connector and post it here?

2. Can anyone with heated 996/Boxster seats confirm if their heat is 1-position or 2-position (high-low).

3. Can anyone with 996 or 997 seats elaborate on how exactly they wired/connected the switches? Did you have the original switches? Did you have the harness? What did you connect where?

4. Below is a diagram of Memory module on a 996 seats. Where could it have come from and is 997 diagram like this available?

Please help as this will be a DYI that might help many people once I get this figured out.

Not sure if this is what you're asking in question #2 but my 996 seats have two heat positions, low and high....... and off so that'd be three positions!

Sanyata, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Now I need to get a pic of wire harness at the switch and at the seat for heat if anyone has theirs available. Or at least pics of the connectors.

I can get those for you this weekend if nobody else chimes in beforehand as I have a 997 SSK to install and plan on doing it this weekend. I think the switch is just a +/- that trips a relay somewhere.

Sanyata, if you could do that, it would be great!

I think the back of the switch is actually 5 wires - +12, Ground, Off, Low, High. If you could ring out which wire gets +12V when the switch is in Off, Low and High position, that would be great! i might be wrong on this, but any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

I also would love to see a picture of the underneath the seat pointing to the heater relay. It should have some connector with Brown and Red/White wires. So if you need to take the seat out to do SSK, please make a few photos of the bottom and send some pics. If you know where that relay/connector is, please indicate it.

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it!

Hello Mike, I heard the word help...
went to dealer and brought you those.
Created a 996 section on PcarWorkshop and uploaded both 996 Carrera and Turbo files you need

Geo, as always, thank you very much for the info!! You've been such a great resource, it's very much appreciated!

What I am trying to find as well are two things:

1. Heated seat connector pinouts for 996 seats.
2. Same info as you've provided, but for a 997.

Hi Mike,

I went out to the garage and pulled the switch dash plate and checked it out with the multi meter.

When looking at the pins on the plug (bottom pic):

6:00 = gnd
9:00 = switch illumination light
11:00 = High Heat
1:00 = +12v
3:00 = Low Heat

Sorry for the lousy photos. I am pulling my seats for the SSK and will get pics if you still need them probably on Saturday. My seats have memory also if that makes a difference.

Hope this helps.

Sanyata, this is golden, just what I was looking for! The only thing I would ask for, if possible, could you show wire colors along the pinout there if it's not too much trouble?

What surprises me a bit is that they must float the signal to the relay if switch is in Off position. I guess it's no big deal, just not great practice. the switch illumination goes to +12 when the lights are on in the car, correct? That means that i can probably wire it from the ashtray light if I want the switches lit.

Memory on the seats doesn't matter for the heat portion, so that is no problem. If you can point your finger at the heat relay when you make under-seat pic that would be exactly what I'm looking for.

Again, great thanks! I'm hoping to have a fairly comprehensive DYI for 996/997 seat install into a 993 as a result of all the info I've found so far.

The switch is a double click rocker where you click it to the left first time for high and again to the left to go to low. Rocking it to the right turns it off. The switch illumination pin showed voltage only when the headlight switch was turned on. I'll get the wire colors tonite for you. I'm far from being real knowledgeable when it comes to electronics, just enough to get in trouble! Maybe pm me your phone number and we can hook up when I have the seats out and you can sorta direct me on what you're looking for.

Default Wire Colors

Mike,

Here's the colors of the wires:

6:00 = gnd - BROWN

9:00 = switch illumination light - 2 WIRES BOTH DK. BLUE & LT. BLUE STRIPPED WITH RED BANDS every inch or so.

11:00 = High Heat - YELLOW / RED

1:00 = +12v - YELLOW / BLACK

3:00 = Low Heat - YELLOW / WHITE (this yellow looks more like mustard brown)

Beautiful. Thanks a bunch!!

I am trying to make a decision currently between 3 996 seat pairs. One is in great condition, cost next to nothing, but has no heat. Saw it today, sat in it and would pull the trigger at twice the price if heat was there. Still might buy them. Too good and too cheap. But I want heat in the cab.

Second set is heated, but condition is hard to tell. Will probably need to be touched with Leatherique. Cost twice as much as first set.

Third is a sport seats set. From a RHD car, which should not be an issue, right? Heated. With crest (why would I care?). Cost 4X the first set, 2X the second set. Will have to be shipped from Europe.

So... what should I go with? Oh, btw, I have a 4-way lumbar from a BMW E38 that I'll be installing into the seat as well 9writeup on that is also forthcoming.

Why not get the inexpensive seats that you really like and have an upholstery shop install heating? Many after market seat heaters are better than the factory with more settings and/or a rheostat.

Doug, I've had my 993 seats apart and got confirmation from several shops... it's not trivial to put aftermarket heaters in Porsche seats due to leather being stitched to foam. Its easier and cheaper to get heated 996 seats.

i want to ask you once again for great pics and Michael (944-LT1 above) for info on heaters and pinouts. I've learned quite a lot and will be putting it all together in a month or so. I'll probably be pulling a trigger on heated 996 Sport hardback seats from Europe tomorrow.
