Default Short shifter, up to 20% less movement

Fellas,

Gert over at carnewal sells a short shifter for the 993. In my VW bug days as a kid, I loved my empi short shifter. But Id love some feeback on this one for the Porsche.

This kit contains all the parts needed to convert the standard shifter system to the Rennsport shifter.
Shortens the shift with 20%.
The 993 C4 and Turbo only need the shift lever.
The C2 and C2S require the shift lever and fork, the rod is optional.

$425 Euro.

Go to:

http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm

Under: Upgrades

Select: P93, click on "short shifter"

Let me know what you guys think, Thanks!

Leon

I'd seriously recommend a search on "Golden Rod". The whole kit prepared by the good folks at Fister is a great upgrade.

Best,

Matt

I'm not a fan of short shifters on the 911 915 trans. But I've got the factory kit on my 993, however, and the throw is nice.

Now, if the 993 just had a bit more power to match the 911.....

+1 on the Golden Rod/RS short shift kit from the boys at FDM. Absolutely one of the best 'bang for the buck' modifications you can do. I opted to keep the stock Porsche RS shifter height on mine (theory is hands/steering wheel is closer to the shifter) but FDM will shorten it for you back to stock 993 height if you so desire ... Snick, snick, snick go the shifts now ..:-)

I got the goldenrod...I am tempted by the SS kit. Any other feedback on FD or others?

The GR was the best of the two upgrades IMHO. I added the FD SS after wards and cut the lever down 3/4" to stock height. Its a more subtle mod as the reduction of stroke is small.

The FD Golden and Platinum rod is a less expensive clone of the factory RS rod that Gert sells, the feature is the solid joint vs rubber on a stock 993. The SS pieces that go w/ the rod are factory RS parts, both FD and Gert sell the same parts.

BTW another happy FD rod user

Smile Me too...

I have the Platinum Rod (Sorry folks, NLA) and the SSK, purchased from FDM and installed by none other than Darin Fister. The service is so good it was worth the 8 hour tow.

BTW, the FDM new shop is epic. If you are in NorCal, you owe yourself (And your 993), a visit.

Fister is the "GO-TO" shop for the best parts, service and price.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. But just wanted to make sure I understood correctly that this FD kit: https://fdmotorsports.net/shop?olsPa...hort-shift-kit + goldenrod is pretty much the same as http://www.carnewal.com/products/993...-transmission. + long rod?

As I am based in the UK after customs clearance the carnewal kit is actually cheaper so the FD is more expensive option. Should I go with Gert or is there something else better with the FD kit?
