Default Steering wheel won't lock

Hello all,

I've looked for this topic and not had any luck. Usually people have problems with the column locking and not being able to turn the key. However, in my case I can't seem to get the column to lock. The car is a 1995 (no immobilizer). After pulling the key out of the ignition, I can turn the wheel through the entire range of motion (takes some effort with the PS off) and it still doesn't lock. Any thoughts? Could the previous owner have disabled this or removed it?

There is a pawl which immobilizes the steering wheel. Yours could be stuck in the "out" position.

It could have been disabled or removed,

Many track cars have it removed to reduce the chance of it locking at an inopportune time. (i have see the results of the steering locking while on the track and its not pretty!)

Maybe I will leave it alone then. I'd rather have it not engage than engage at the wrong time. I've read several posts describing them locking during turns! Just out of curiousity, is there an access point to lubricate these or is it sealed?

Might be time to lube the lock, & maybe lightly bang the steering column.

I have some dry graphite lube for locks, come on over if you want to use some.

Graphite sounds like it might do the trick. After the holiday I'll send you a message. I have to get out to some of those track days next season too! Have a merry Christmas!

No worries, let me know.

Yea, it would be great to get you out to a few Auto-Xs this year!

Merry Christmas to you!
