Default Looking for a 993 spare tire compressor

One of the only things missing from the Cab when I bought it. Anyone have one collecting dust they would like to sell to me?
Thanks,
JP

You can usually find one on ebay. Search Porsche 993 parts & accs.

I did that first, but the good ones I saw (all pieces intact including plastic tabs on cover box) were for other models/years. I know it's a nit-picky point, but if I'm going to buy one to keep the car original, I want a 993 part, which brings up another question since my '95's compressor is aftermarket. Does the 993 factory compressor have a 993 part number? When I look it up on the current PET it lists a 996 part (996 652 053 00) implying that whatever part came on 993's at some point the 996's compressor superseded it....

I've got several. If you want 993 specifically (and it's any different), what do I care if I put the one from the RSA in the C4S???? I'm in either Oakland or Concord (Pacheco).

That's a good question. They seem to be the same hardcase and internal configuration over the years/models with slight changes to the internal parts probably as vendors change designs etc. I'm starting to think that if you picked a given model year, they are probably the same across all models for that year.

At any rate, thanks for the offer, I did buy one from Ken (race911). Thanks Ken!

Your PET is very old, that number has changed twice more to a 997 number

Did the 993 come with the black ribber plastic case type compressor, the one with the internal gauge and the Porsche crest sticker on the inside or the later smaller one like the 996 & 997 versions?

As far as I can tell, all 993's came with the ribbed plastic case type. I don't know if the internal configuration/parts changed during 993 production but it appears there are two types. One without an 'emergency light' imbedded into a hollow in the lid which seems to be the earlier version and dates back to the 1980's and I'm guessing through '95 or '96 and one with the light which seems to be for '97/'98 model years. Can anyone here verify or better yet, show otherwise? Here's some pic's for comparison (sorry for the crappy pictures ..):

Earlier style without emergency light

Later style with light

Later cars such as my 97 have a different style of compressor. It doesn't come in a case but instead has a little flap on the front for the wiring etc to tuck in to.

You can see it here along with the rest of my tool kit.

Dom,
Thanks for the pics. I've seen those on ebay, but I thought they were either an aftermarket deal or factory for some other German make like Audi or VW. So, this is the pump that came with your car from the factory in '97? Sure looks like you have all the other factory trunk items there ...

My early 95 has the plastic case with the light. Can't be 100% but I am pretty sure it is original (everything else is and the spare tire had never been inflated). Sticker on the bottom says CO 960362165.

Well, if that's the case, it probably means that all 993's that came with the ribbed plastic case type had the 'emergency' light provision.

Does anybody have a car that came from the factory with the old style without the light?

Hi, Yes this is the standard compressor for a 97 car. There have been discussions about it before on our UK site 911uk.com. Here's one of the links http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=52672

Here's a pic I found when I did the search over there of the tools from a 97 C4S. As you can see it's basically the same as mine.

Wow, thanks Dom, that's VERY helpful and answers several questions I had about what may be missing from my trunk and tool kit. I emptied the entire trunk space last night to see what might be lurking under the spare and battery and found a tiny round hex extension piece that I thought might be part of the tool kit, but wasn't sure and there it is in your picture attached to it's male counterpart in the tool kit pocket second from right. Also, I only have two wrenches and thought I might be missing a wrench or two, but it looks like they only came with two (as opposed to my '95 which came with 5!) so I guess they standardized nut sizes on the car for simplicity and manufacturability. Now all I have to do is find a stock first aid kit, a green softbag for the jack, a red plastic end cover for the breaker bar like I see in your kit and a few of those bags and lovely plastic gloves and I'll be ready for the Opera ...
