Default Hankook tires

I have fitted to my 2009 VW Touareg and they are much quieter than the Continentals fitted as original. Has anyone used Hankook on their 993 ?
Prices seem very competitive here but this is the last consideration. Handling and safety come first. The Bridgestone SO2 will need replacing soon. Your comments would be appreciated. TT

I am from the UK and have a 996 but I know many who own 993.
I just bought a full set of 4 tyres, continentals sport contact 2 and they stick to the road.
The road noise is 0.
Make sure you get reinforced, the tyre is very importent I was on the phone to them for ages going through all tyres and the conts are really good, not sure what your TAX or pricing is but for me it was around £700 fitted, which is VERY good in England.
I looked at loads of makes and although Porsche would not help me with a make, ruf did.

typically all the tires I have used over the years start off quiet and get noisier as the miles accumulate.

Hankooks are a great bang for the buck, handle well, and are quiet. Besides being cursed with a nail in my last 3 sets of new tires with less than 500 miles, all is great.

I looked at the Sumi's and my homework based on ratings, feedback, and reviews pointed me to the Hankook Ventus V12--best all around value in my opinion. I have about 1000 miles on them and actually own 2 sets. Picked up another set from an RL'er, along with the set of Cup II's.

I have had multiple sets of tires in the past 7 years--Bridgestone SO3 Pole Positions, Kumho MX's, and now Hankooks. All great tires.

I recommend the Hankooks.

Was looking at the Sumi III and the Hankooks but looked at the Continental Extreme Contact DSW and like it a lot better from the rating on Tirerack...no personal experience.

A friend did get the Sumis and likes them compared to the worn out GY F1 GSD3. But...that is a sample size of 1.

If you talk to Damon at TR he can give you the comparison between the Hankooks vs Sumis. IIRC the Hankooks had better wet traction and the Sumis were better dry/handling so I went with the Sumis. They are priced fairly closely.

I recently put a set on my car and so far so good. Quiet, good wet & dry traction, and they seem to be wearing pretty well...I'll have to see how long the rears last.

The Hankooks are rated better in both wet and dry handling conditions, according to Tirerack. The Hankooks are rank 7, Sumi's 14th for the class of tire.

Both are close and price and you probably cant go wrong with either.

50% of all doctors graduated on the bottom 1/2 of their class. Not all of them are bad.

I use the Ventus V-12 as rain tires on my track car and they are excellent in the wet. When the track dries out their performance is still very good. Great grip but braking is not as good as the R- Comps I run in the dry. I would not hesitate to recommend these.

Timely thread. Putting a set of Hankooks on my CLK 430 Cab in the morning. I have also read good things about them. I would have rum Sumis, but were not available until later next week and we are going on a weekend trip. I know I added nothing here, just glad to see some positive reviews.

I had Hankooks on my wheels because I had Hankooks on my last car. I would suggest going on some mountain runs and ask others what they like on their cars. Hankooks were a word of mouth thing many years ago from what I remember.

I tried Hankooks on a Lexus 400gs and returned them after a week. This was about 5 years ago. They caused a funny vibration that was irriitating. That car wass sensitive to tires. I learnned that a big factor. With tires is how round they are. At the time, I was advised thatMichelins were the "roundest". Itbmay not be much of a factor with the 993s butt with a luxury car, you may not be so happy.
