Could be the auction women in their black dresses selling more than just the cars?

I hate to point out the obvious but it has a 3.0L and thus is a SC not a Carrera as the Euro 3.0L Carrera was only available 76 and 77, which makes the add even more incorrect. I wonder, if I knew more about Muscle cars it would be interesting to see if they get that info that wrong.

i watched the auction last night...an older gentleman apparently bought it for his son who was sitting next to him...needless to say if you were a young boy uneducated on Porsche and had the opportunity to have whatever car you wanted and your daddy flipped the bill you to would ****** it up just like he did (i call it impulse buying)...they obviously (hopefully) have the money to take care of all the problems, if any, that will rear there ugly head...

On the other hand - careful "shopping" can pay off. I bought this 72 MB 350SL - only year for a US car with the small bumpers - with less then 70k miles in pristine condition with all books etc - both tops for $18k including bidders premium. Go figure.

I've been to B-J a couple of times and its a well run and an entertaining event for the car enthusiast. I spent about 2% of my time in the auction tent. As far as I can see there are no bargains especially considering the fees. The odd time I saw a fair deal IMHO. You are buying a car with little to no information and without a test drive. It amazes me that with no reserve there aren't more good buys. I think many cars are bought for the 3 minutes of glory - an ego trip. You can drive down the road to a number of other auctions although I can't say if the prices and fees are any better.

I watch all the auctions and reruns of auctions way more than I want to admit. I know a bit about the muscle cars and even kind of like some of them ( a '69 Z28 would be nice) as I grew up during that era.

It's hard judge the quality of a car on the screen as they all look nice and shiny. There is a huge price range for essentially the same car. It is all about the quality of restoration and what options the car has, mostly big engine. There are certainly knowledgeable folks there but probably many more who impulse buy after a few adult beverages. In the case of this Porsche, I fully agree with jtilden.

You have to remember too, that there must have been at least one if not more completely uneducated buyers to the run the bidding up. I assume they were all drinking the same spiked drinks.

'72 350SL

I had one of those! Same color too. Sold it after I got married. It was kept outside near the ocean and had some major rust problems, so it was not worth holding onto. Good memories though! Sold it in '85 for about $12k - not bad for a rust bucket.

There are a lot of people at these sales with a ton of money who see cars they like and just buy them. The prices I see people pay sometimes makes me cringe but they apparently have a lot more money than me, so I can't really criticize.

I would always worry about that which is why I would never go to one. There is NEVER a steal at these 'no reserve' auctions, even on the first day when the cars are not premium cars. There are some 'well bought' cars as they like to share with viewers but that's about it.
By the way I hope the new English guy gets some muscle car pointers. Yesterday he described a nice Trans Am with the eagle on the hood. I guess he never heard of a Firebird. Speed Channel should be able to find someone a bit better.
