Default Getting desperate! Is a C2S with a tiptronic transmission worth it?

I have no experience with a Porsche tiptronic transmission. Are they like a regular transmission or perhaps similar to a BMW E46 M3 SMG transmission?

Thanks in advance.

unfortunately not even close to SMG...remember that this technology is 15-20 years old!

Hold out, you will not be happy if you settle for a tip. If you were looking for one thats fine, but if you just can't find a six speed, wait, there will be ones on the market soon enough. What are your color options?

A TIP is not a good option IMO... unless the person cannot handle a clutch due to a physical problem.

They are however considerably cheaper than a manual GB equipped car...

Reality I'm afraid

I love my tip. It is a personal preference for sure. Sorry, I have no comparisons to the trannies you listed.

depends on your use of the car. I used my 993 as a Daily Driver for 2 years in Boston traffic and it was a really nice to have. Probably doubled my use and enjoyment of the Porsche(I used it in manual shift mode, never in 'auto' except in a rare case).

now im 50/50 on the tip....it definitely takes away from the spirited driving BUT I still use the 993 more because of the tip.

The Tip in a C2/C2S is really just a true automatic transmission (has a torque converter.......just like a Buick) and it does take away some of the guts of the car's performance. However, having said that, my previous 5 911's were all manuals and I absolutely love my '97 C2S Tip. Mine has almost 40k miles and has been utterly reliable and completely bulletproof, like the rest of the car. If that's your preference, for whatever reason, don't let the "manual guys" tell you a Tip is no good. Plus you can get one slightly cheaper than a manual. If your heart is set on a manual, you will probably be disapointed with a Tip.

Cheers.

P.S. If you drive one, DO NOT use it in "auto" mode.

I have a C2S tip, and it's perfect for me. Plenty fast enough everywhere for me on the street.

My wife's Targa is a Tiptronic....I enjoy taking it for a ride the same as the Cup car (which surprisingly didn't offer a Tiptronic....)

Desperate? For food, money? Are you that desperate that you'd buy a car you might not like?

All great points. I think you answered your own question when you used the phase, "Getting desperate". Don't settle for a tiptronic if it's not what you want.

Life is too short to drink bad wine...much less to marry a woman you don't love... or own a car you don't like.

Yup, if you want a manual, buy a manual. For me it was WB or nothing, transmission wasn't even a consideration.
