Bay Area RL Drive 3-22-09 (Updated)
To all Bay Area Rennlisters:
I have decided to post a new thread so everyone will catch the details.
Given the fantastic turnout we had at our last East Bay drive in December, Darren and I are planning a spring drive up north to Lake Berryessa and Napa Valley. Here are the details:
Date: March 22nd Sunday
Time: 8:45 AM
Meet at Starbucks at the start of Suisun Valley Rd. Address: 4490 Central Way, Fairfield, CA
Route:
1. North up Suisun Valley Rd to Monticello Rd (121) (turn right)
2. Continue north on 121 to 128 (left onto Capell Valley Rd); quick stop here to regroup
3. Continue north on 128, then turn right onto Knoxville Rd - this will take us alongside Lake Berryessa
4. North on Knoxville Rd, then past Pope Creek - stop on the right side after the bridge - Great spot for photos
5. Turn left onto Pope Canyon Rd, continue west, then right onto Pope Valley Cross Rd to Chiles Pope Valley Rd, then to Pope Valley Rd
6. Continue on Pope Valley Rd, which eventually becomes Butts Canyon Rd
7. Take Butts Canyon Rd to 29, where we'll stop in Middletown for lunch
8. South on 29 back to Calistoga. Turn left onto the Silverado Trail before getting into Calistoga
9. Continue south on the Silverado Trial to St. Helena, where we'll make our last stop. For folks who want to head over to Sears Point, they can split up here. Otherwise, we'll continue down Sage Canyon Rd (128), then back track on 121 to Suisun Valley Rd
The total distance for the loop is around 130 miles, and we expect to finish by mid afternoon.
As of now, I have the following folks as definite:
FisterD, MarkD, logan2z, flatsix911 (Ted), Porscheholic, brucec59, Terry Adams, Hal M, Harry L, ca993twin (Steve), ltcjmramos (Joe)
These are the probables:
KraZy007 (Jimmy), jmarch, Surj-993c2s, oleg steciw, kmy (Kevin), WangWang167
Looks like we'll have a great turnout! If you have 2 way radios, bring them! See you then!

Rain or shine, I'm on.
Any Los Altos area people want to meet somewhere to drive up together? Need about 1.5 hours, so
How about 7:00 a.m. at
Peet's Coffee & Tea
1032 Castro St
Mountain View, CA 94040

From there to Fairfield,

Rain?! That would make driving my 2WD turbo interesting. I need more seat time first!
Well, they may be right but there is an equal chance they are wrong.
Never trust weather "forecasters" or politicians

We're on rain or shine, as Terry says. Right now, the forecast says 40% chance of showers on Sunday, but I'm sure it'll change in a couple days.

I'll consult the social secretary on this one. If I'm in, we will just meet up at Pete's on Castro as Terry suggested. I'll post later on this one.
Terry and others,
Parking on Castro is a major pain. How about if we meet up at Starbucks by Trader Joe's instead? Al least we have more parking. Melissa opens there on Sunday morning.
Starbuck address is 22390 Homestead Road, Cupertino, CA. We can jump on 280 or 85 from there.

I'll be at Sears Point racing on Sunday (weather permitting, I don't run in the rain). The PRC Race is at 1:30 pm and some of us will also run in the "Group A" race that will include the NASA GTS (German Touring Sedan) class at 2:50. We have PRC Qualifying at 10:05 am and Group A qualifying at 11:25 am. NASA runs a tight schedule, so take these times as gospel.
Stop by if you want to watch some fun or listen to us racers tell lies about our driving skills.

Terry,
From Peet's Castro, I would still recommend heading down El Camino to 237 to 880 to 680.
Looking forward to seeing everyone Sunday morning. Hope it won't rain!
