Default Front License Plate

Are the screws that hold the mounting frame self-tapping or does the bumper (it's a Turbo bumper) have to be removed for the frame to be attached? How does one get those little screw-hole-filling nubs out of the front bumper?

Thanks in advance,
Charlie

The first project on the TT eh? Good one to start with!

Those little plastic things have to be pried out carefully. It has four prongs that expand outward when pushed into the bumper. A small screwdriver will do it... be patient. Use a backing material to protect the bumper from the screwdriver. If you get a very small screwdriver you can get it inside the plastic nut and snag one of the prongs to pry it inward.
Then visit bumperplugs.com (RL sponsor) and get a color-matched set to fill those holes.
You might want to put a dab of black silicone on the back of the bumperplug when you insert it. They can tend to slide out or get caught on a wash mitt or towel.
Have fun!

EDIT: Wait, are you adding a plate? or deleting it?
If adding, it sounds like maybe there are bumper plugs in it now. You will need the little white plastic snap-in nuts.
The bumper plugs would just pull out.

Oh, I should clarify. I want to put the front license plate bracket ON. The car has matching bumper plugs already, which I need to get OUT. The friendly local NYPD doesn't have a sense of humor regarding front plates.

OK, see above.
The plugs just pull out.
The plastic nuts that pop in can be bought just about anywhere.

Cool, thanks. I'm a bit confused, it's been a hectic day. I'm the only one on this board crazy enough to put the front plate back on.

WHB -

Do a search as there is an option for mounting the plate in front of the opening below that looks a lot cleaner. I think someone is selling a kit to do it, or you can easily make one yourself once you understand what his kit does.

I got a fix-it ticket in California a while back for my European style plate. I simply drilled two holes in the California license plate and mounted with sheet metal screws directly into the bumper plugs/clips. Went to CHP office to get the ticket signed-off and officer didn't even look at car. Went home and removed plate, stored it in trunk for later "use." Can put it back on if needed in about a minute.

I have the Inventiva bracket. Looks way better than the stock system, especially when you get the matching bumper plugs.

Another vote for the inventiva bracket if you want a plug & play, it appears to be a nicely made product with all the bits you need to do the job. It's an easy DIY if you want to try, I made one in well under an hour: http://homepage.mac.com/ejd . An update, I've had mine up to 120mph at the track, still no issues :-)

Well, I've got the factory plate mount on it now, as I didn't really have time to wait for the Inventiva one and I'm not sure I'd like to drill into the bumper, for now at least.

Anyone have the web site link to the place that makes the licence holder that attaches to the tow hook hole?
