Default Wiper Blades for 993

Is any one using the new technology blades that are without skeleton, such as Trico Innovision, Bosch Icon, Valeo Ultimate.........etc.

I have always had wiper issues and need a solution, actually for the 993 and my 02 540i.

Any thoughts if they make our size?

Using each company's search engine, it appears that only the Trico Innovision is available for the 'passenger side' of the 95-98 911.

Won't work due to the extreme curvature of our windshields. Go OE for the most flexibility.

The new style blades are great for normal windshields, though. I've used the Valeos and they're amazing.

I like the Icon/Ultimate, but the just look to funky on the classic lines of the 993. I just buy cheapo Bosch wipers to keep the look. And their cheap.

BTW, make sure to polish your windshield if your having problems. It cures most wiper woes. I use zaino glass polish, works great.

I had same prob too, I couldn't find Icons in 15 even on Bosch's website. BTW, I had seen the factory frames on an older 911 and they lifted at the edge of the windshield like the aftermarket Boschs do. Anyone experience that?

Dont't do much driving in the rain. I'm a happy Rain-X user. Had a Honda go 200K+ w/ Rain-X and original blades. Good Luck

FWIW, I compared the flexibility of the Bosch vs OE blades. There is a difference in coverage along the outside of the windshield. Maybe only 1/2" to 3/4" more wiped area, but for a daily driver, I need all I can get.

Some of these blades (Bosch Icon is one IIRC) have an airfoil/lip that's designed to use the airflow coming up the windshield to help hold the blade down. In most cars the wipers only sweep across 90-120 degrees, so this works well. However, since our 993s have wiper blades that swing almost a full 180 degrees, it would seem that airfoil would have the negative effect on the latter half of the wiper's sweep, causing the blade to lift off the windshield, no?

My wife's Audi allroad has factory wipers that are similar to the Bosch Icon, and they do work very well.

Alvin, how do you like the Icons on your 993?

Best,

Chris

Just go to Advance Auto with 16 bucks burning a hole in your pocket and come out with what you get. They WILL work.

I am with you on this one. I have the Boschs on my car and they neatly miss about an inch on the outer edge of the driver's side. OEs are the only ones that fit the 993 windshield and maximize the wipers' capability. Hey, in Seattle we need all the help we can get!

Aren't the OE's made by Bosch? So i'm assuming the Bosch's Micro and others found in auto stores and Walmart are completely different than the OE ones from the likes of Sunset?
