Default Once more for High Octane Gas in Seattle!

I was around the Auburn area today and looked up the stations with high octane and race gas so here is the scoop:

Union 76 on Auburn Way North just north of 15th ave north. They have Trick Racing Fuel 101 octane unleaded for $5.75 per gallon. They also have 3 pumps with leaded Trick Racing Fuel but I didn't check that out.

So the 101 Octane could be ratio-ed in a 1 to 3 mix of 101 and 92:

(101 Oct x 5 Gal)+(92 Oct x 15 Gal) / 20 Gal = 94.25 Octane

Also:

($5.75 x 5 Gal) + ($3.00 x 15 Gal) = $3.68 per Gallon

The nice kid there at the 76 also said that if what I wanted was 94, the Cenex station has 94 Octane. I drove a little south to check that out.

The station is South of Hiway 18 just off of Auburn Way South. You can see it from Auburn Way South. It is two streets South of the Dennys on the West side of Auburn Way South.

The Cenex station does have the 94 Octane right in the pump for $3.09 per Gallon. I think that might just be the ticket!

So the only reason I can think of why they are in Auburn is that the track is close by. Auburn is the closed city to SIR.

That's what I know!

Cheers

Thanks Bruce. Now that boating season is coming to a close, I may use my 28-gallon "gas dock" to fuel up with a little 100. Forgive my ignorance, what is the difference between aviation fuel and the 100 octane race fuel at the pump? I ask because I am walking distance from Kenmore Air Harbor...

Aviation fuel (IIRC) is usually leaded.... avoid it like the plague... will kill the cats in mere moments... (expensive exercise for no gain).

That explains a lot. We have had a bad time around here with the sudden, unexplained death of both cats and kittens. I never would have thought that the type of fuel one runs in a car could affect that.

OCtane is rated differently in the US and EU. There has been a lot of fuel discussions on the 944 turbo forum here on Rennlist. A search there will bring up a lot of infor, especially on additives..

Thanks for the info Bruce- Now that I have my Mustang insured I need some of those options. I know of the 100 octane station in Auburn but didn't know of the 94 octane gas- Thanks

Anyone have a dyno run of our 993s with 92 octane vs 100 octane - that would really show whether the high octane makes a significant difference in our cars.

Hey Scott,

The higher octane will not improve HP or lap times. Smoothness and responsiveness are the main benefits along with lower temps. The reason the HP and lap times do not improve is because for those conditions the engine is at wide open throttle (WOT). Our cars go rich at WOT and the engine will gernerate max horsepower with 92 octane. So other than running cooler, there is no benefit for most track situations as far as max HP is concerned or Dyno runs for stock engines and ECUs.

94 octane allows the ECU to run full advance and you will feel that at part throttle roll on as an improved response. The engine will run smoother and quieter and will not ping when you floor it when it is warm out.

The effect is subtle but it is there. Not everybody has the butt dyno that can feel it so there are "non believers" out there. The sticker on the inside of the gas flap does recomend 93 so I try to have at least 93 in there.

Cheers

Amazing. I have been looking all over Seattle for 94+ octane gas. Even went by the Auburn airport. Was scared of leaded. Now I read this and find out the stations are 2 minutes from my house. I live by Pacific Raceway (Used to be SIR). Thanks man. I am going tomorrow.

Nice. She really likes that. Found the place with 101 for $6.25 a gallon (don't tell the wife). Like night and day response and smoothness. maybe will try the 94 when I run this tank dry. I mixed half and half 101 and 92. they have 114 and 119 but the guy said very sternly DO NOT PUT THAT IN THAT CAR. Not unless you want to melt the heads right off.

Hey aeroman,

Just returned your PM and then saw your post. half and half 101 and 92 is pretty high as the 993 can only use about 94 and then the rest is wasted.

Lets see: ((10 x 101) + (10 x 92))/20 = 96.5 That's a lot of octane.

I just scrolled up and 5 gal of 101 in 15 gal of 92 will give you 94.25. Saves you a little money. straight 94 look to be the best deal.

I am glad you like the improved response...I am an addict now!

Cheers!

They guy did mentioned that the car can become addicted. He was filling race cans while I was filling my tank. He did say about 5 gallons in my tank would be enough with the rest 92. He kind of smirked when I said I went half half. Mentioned the Aluminum block and heads and mumbled something about meltdown. I am just keeping my eye on temps but it looks to me like it is running cooler. I went hard on it and never got the line above the first normal opp line.
