Roadtrip and help requested!!
Hello everyone, I know I haven't posted much this year but I've been insanely busy. This is not necessarily on topic but I did drive the Turbo the other day and was reminded about why I love this car. Unfortunately, it seems to be leaking oil so I'll need to figure out what is going on. Jeff, wanna help?
So about a month back, I went on a road trip with the family. Here's the link to my set. I'm still adding pictures so check back for updates.

On a seperate note, I remember reading in an issue of Road & Track or Car & Driver about this road off of National Trails Highway/Route 66 that the magazine had once used for a high speed run to test a Camaro? Trans-Am? There's a story around the road if I remember correctly, something about a woman convincing the gov to build and how this is visible from the highway. I think I found it, Memorial Drive on I-40 in CA but I'm not sure and I would sure love to find the story again. I'm sure a bunch of car nuts would likely know what I'm talking about.
I can't remember it and it's driving me nuts so any help would be much appreciated!!!

Burning Brakes
This was posted on Pelican Parts:
"I found it!
Using the Terraserver, Mapquest satellite images, and hints from other sites and members, I was able to find the road.
It runs north of, and parallel to, I-40 (which runs just north of, and parallel to, old Route 66). In this image, I drew a red arrow to 'Mrs. Orcutt's Driveway.' You can clearly see I-40 and Route 66 in the image. The four parallel lines are (from the top): RR track, Mrs. Orcutt's Driveway, I-40, Route 66.
It has been officially re-named 'Memorial Drive' and is in the city of Newberry Springs, California. For scale, the entire road runs about 3.5 miles in length.
I am going to check it out at the end of this month (in the Porsche, of course). I will post pics."

We're all really old. The original piece ran in Car & Driver and they ran several top speed tests there.
In the last year or two, C&D wrote another piece confirming Leland's second post, lamenting the decline of their once-favorite test track. They also talked more about the history of the road, which was installed when the Interstate's construction cut off a little old lady from the rest of society.
Regards to all.

Mike in Chi, you are not the only old fart around My memory is going daily.
Leland, thanks for the info.
I'm pleased that I did find the right place on Google Earth namely Memorial Drive aka Mrs. Orcutt's Driveway. For those of you who have not been to the area, it's definitely worth a trip. Amboy is maybe 10 miles from there.
Speaking of which, my picture above made it to the front page of Yahoo today which was a pleasant surprise. I only found out when a co-worker sent me a screen capture.
