Default Stone Guards

So, I spoke to my Porsche Parts Department in regards to replacing the stone guards on my 97' C4S. According to my parts guy, the colored stone guards are no longer available.

Does anyone know if this is the case, I'm looking for the following stone guards in Artic Silver:

# 993 559 325 07 92T
# 993 559 326 07 92T

If anyone might be able to steer me in the right direction, or do you think that I should replace them with the clear ones?

Not sure, but the clear ones I put on a few months ago from invincashield look way better than the polar silver ones that were on previously

I would go with clear, should look just as good, but indeed may yellow a bit with age. You can then simply replace them again if and when that happens as they will also likely be showing signs of abuse by then as well..

Note that there are aftermarket clear, cheaper alternatives, but in my case I found that the factory guards are of a thicker 3M material (protect better) and have better/more accurate cut lines. The aftermarket alternatives just didn't cut it for me and I ended up going for the originals.

Having said this, the prices for the factory ones are simply beyond RIDICULOUS!!!! Cost me $100.00cdn per side for the stone guards!

In my opinion the clear guards look better (I have them on my polar silver car).

Cheers,

Another vote for clear guards to replace the colored ones once they are old and marked... I feel it made for a much cleaner look.

Who is the recommended supplier for the 3m aftermarket stone guards? I'd like to replace mine also.

Thanks!

Anyone tried any of the other Invinca-shield pieces besides the stone guards? They make pieces for 993 mirrors, hoods, bumpers, fenders, wheel arches etc., etc.. Just wondering since a lot of Rennlisters like the other "clear bra" product that I think requires a professional installation. Wondering if the Invinca product would compare favorably...

Steve,

I put full Invinca-shield package myself(bumper, large hood, mirrors, rear fenders). I know next time I can do it somewhat better, but for what it is(protecting the paint, so that I can spend $200 instead of $1500 for clean frontend) - I like it a lot and I'm glad I didn't pay installer to put pre-cut package on.

Having said that, when I see pictures from this thread - well, it's different level - full height/width plastic pieces, custom cut in place - you won't be able to do it yourself I think. Not unless you practice a lot and have access to a lot of 3M film. But then, it very well might be that this kind of paint protection would cost more than simple respray.

Small -
Thanks for your reply. I think you are absolutely right.. I do not have enough patience (or access to enough 3M plastic film) to learn to apply it ANYWHERE NEAR to the level of perfection in your referenced thread... Great info.. Thanks for sharing your experience.. This is what makes Rennlist so great !

My wife and I just put Invinca-Shield on the my new turbo bumper and rear fenders. They have a video on their web page. It was not that hard of a job and looks great.

Small, Thanks! It looks like they are asking $67 + shipping for both sides.

Has anyone tried the sheild for the door handle pockets? Mine seem to get scratched no matter how careful I am...

I replaced my colored stone guards with clear 3M purchased at a store locally - at a fraction of the price of the exorbitant Porsche ones (they don't stock the coloreds ones any more). Save your old OEM guards to use as templates. Easy DIY job.

Go with the clear 3M product it is almost undetectable, easily replaceable and does a great job.

I have a guy who will come to your house and do the entire car if you want and he does a great job. I have won numerous Concours with it on the car and nobody notices it.

If you are interested PM me, he is located here in North Jersey.
