Ok, I'm an idiot, I clicked on less than 500 instead of over 5000. Can it be fixed?

Absolutely according to my P mech.

He says to keep the level no higher than the half point on the dipstick then add 1/2 liter when needed.

Prevents leaks from the one way check valve... he claims.

Monique, I wondered about that. I noticed (twice now) that it seems to burn it fairly rapidly (1000miles) down to 3/4 mark and then stabilizies. Thanks for the response

To answer the question about the valve covers- absolutely! I could drop a half a quart in a couple of days through my lower covers. When I changed them out I discovered my RMS leak. Oh well, I have been planning to do a LWFW and clutch anyway.

Is there any body interested in the relationship between miles on the engine and oil consumption? Maybe one of you creative (web) guys could start a new thread?

Thanks, Fred

To those who burn 1qt < 1000 miles, what do you attribute your oil usage to? Leaks big or small? Hard driving? Valve guide wear? Or is the argument, "its within factory spec"?

I've used a little more than a quart in the last twelve thousand miles. What's weird is my car now has 91,000 miles on it and I get no smoke on startup(And no CEL issues either..), which is hugely contrary to all my previous 911 oil consumption experience.
The original owner of my car told me he almost never had to add oil between oil changes, which, of course, I (&my PPI Mechanic) took with a grain of salt.

Almost feel like something must be wrong with the car.

Default me too on low oil use

Me too.....feeling nervous.... Castrol 5w-50. No gas exchange being noted afaik either.....about a quart at most at 5k...then I change the oil anyway. No leaks anywhere (mechaninc checked carefully one month after the engine was show prep clean).

Tire wear is getting me though.

I use a quart every 1000 miles, which is fine with me. I drive the car extremely hard each time I use it, which is what I attribute it to.

I Ran 2100 miles on my last Highway Holiday before adding a quart.
I always keep the dip stick near Full.

I have never tried to keep it at half on the stick.
I just ran about the same with Highway City combined - ironically this is after changing the Resonance Gasket and Drilling the SAI Ports.

So oil consumption HAS Improved .
Guess part of this is the Resonance Flappe Gasket being Cleaned Up and Replaved?
SAI Drilling Hmmm - Thoughts?
Confusing.

All of this with 100,000 mILES ON A Rebuilt Top End
And Yes, when I can I do Open her Up!

Old thread. Cool though, since it's a poll. Wonder how the numbers would shift today given it's ten years since that sample.

I started this driving season in march at 63,137 miles with a fresh oil change. Just had the oil changed again today at 67,357 miles. I used approximately 1 1/2 litres between oil changes. I'm pretty happy with that. No leaks by the way.

I add about 1/3 of a quart every 6,000 miles or between oil changes which is once a year....

Since this poll is closed, perhaps we should start a 2014 version.

If I try to keep level at the full mark n the stick, I have to add a 1/2 qt every 2000 miles. If I keep it half way, hardly need to between changes.
