A friend of mine adviced me ask this question here before I took my car to a dealer to have this issue checked out!

Upon acceleration in 1st gear (first gear only) I hear a rapid metallic clicking/tapping noise from the rear when in revs above 4000 rpms... It goes away as soon as I upshift or rev lover. I am new to this car so I am now sure if maybe this is normal, the car runs beautiful and the noise is not there at other speeds or above those revs.

It's a 97' Tip w. approx 60k miles.

Any suggestions?

Don't drive it much until you get this diagnosed and/or repaired.

I just went for a drive to do some further investigation of the issue.

It's not very loud, yet noticeable in both neutral, 1st and 2nd at @ 4000+

It's sort of a metallic rattle at high frequency.

There is no sounds or anything in idle or in gear before 4000 rpms.

After taking a more careful listen, the noise it doesn't sound like it's coming from the enige but closer to the cabin - I'm thinking heatshield, exhaust or something.

I placed my phone on the backseat and made a recording from 6-9 secs in the recording you can hear the noise:

Does this sound normal or alarming?

The car has the motorsound package if thats a factor.
