A/C Doesn't make me cool anymore
My A/C stopped working. It doesn't blow cold air anymore.
Everything else seems to be fine though - the airflow increases greatly, as usual, when I press the upper A/C switch and turn the temp all way down. It just doesn't get any cooler than the outside air temp
Anybody got any suggestions of where to start looking?

Eric,
according to my bill from Porsche that thing is called Evaporator, but this is Spore and may be there are other words for it. But they had to remove the dash in order to replace the "Evaporator".... Cost for the part was S$1700,- approx. 850 Euro. It just stopped working.... I hope I could help, may be other specialists chime in with ideas?
Cheers

I agree with Ingo - unfortunately, it sounds as if you have a deceased evaporator. The bad news is that the thing is buried in the bowels of the car (front, behind the gas tank) and anything to do with refrigerant is not a DIY job for me at least. Word of advice: Find an independent specialist and buy the evaporator yourself (you'll need an expansion valve too). I recall that the evaporator was around $400 (versus $750 or more from Porsche), the valve is only around $50-70 and labor another $750 (also around half of the best quote from any dealer).
Hope this works in time to keep you cool for the summer!

Mike! You wont belief how much snacks even 777´s can have, but must admit that our engineering is doing a tremendous job.... there is hardly anything on the hold item list... these guys are really smart. I hope you had a great weekend so far!? Did you take the A36 tho the skies today? Cheers from here!!!

Sounds like the evaporator. Mine's just died and I now have a choice: get it replaced (about £500 new, maybe less if I can find a second-hand one from a breaker) plus about 6-7 hours' labour charge (since, as my garage put it, when building the 993, it looks as if Porsche started with the evaporator and built the rest of the car around it, it's that buried), total of well over £1000.
The alternative is to keep recharging the a/c system every few months at a cost of, what, £50 a shot? It's tempting...
Has anyone else managed to find a cheaper way around this problem?

Snacks? I knew you guys didn't do anything up in front. Turn the A/P on and drink coffee and eat cake. What a life....
I would love to fly this weekend, but my oldest daughter is graduating from Syracuse University (Go Orange!!) and its a two day affair, starting in about 2 hours.
Take care my friend and fly safe.
