Optima Red Top installation - a snap!
I could find several links describing the Optima Red Top, but only one post that seemed to hint that the Red Top 75/35-925 was a direct replacement for the size 48 battery in a 993. So, went out and bought one (did a web search for stores at the Optima battery web site to find a local retail store - you can find one with a simple seach using "Google" or other search engine).
Well, for your info - yes, the 75/35 is a direct replacement for a size 48!. Lower skirt fits nicely into the flange on the 993 and the hold-down bracket fits perfectly. Terminals match nicely with the battery leads; no problems. Whole job - take out old battery, drive to store, buy new battery and hand over old one, drive home, install Optima - took less than an hour.
After installation, car kicked right over and a half hour drive to charge the battery revealed no problems.

Ray...Do the stock battery terminal connectors just attach to the terminals on the Optima Red Top...seems like I remember reading that some type of extender was needed as the terminals on the battery were located more inboard on this battery. I want to just get a direct replacement.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi Ray
Last month I replaced my aging Interstate (size 48) w/an Optima Red Top 75/35. I also found it a perfect fit, although it took a few taps w/a rubber mallet & a 1x2 piece of wood to seat the lower lip of the battery under the car's fender side flange.
I guess great minds really do think alike ... at least when it comes to batteries.

The terminals on the Red Top 75/35 are a pefect fit to the 993 cables. You're thinking of problems w/a different Optima.

On the 75/35 - yes. NO cobjob adapters needed. You might notice a slight bend in the plastic covering over the positive terminal wiring that runs along the trunk bottom metal (between the spare and the battery), but I didn't find this to be any problem.

Thanks, Randall.
I need one, wasn't sure if there were different one's available with reversed poles that would better fit. Looking at that shot, installing the battery back-to-front is obviously not a problem.
(Hell, even Ray can do it... )

The Red Top is a bolt-in direct replacement. NOTHING extra is needed. Works fine, but I still use a Battery Maintainer if the car will be parked for a week or so.
