Default 991 C4 - Overheat Event

Not the second post I wanted to make but yesterday I was sitting in traffic and I get an overheating warning pop up. Luckily I was in a neighborhood and pulled over, shut the engine down within 10 seconds of the warning popping.

I sat there for about 20 mins with the engine off but the ignition on to help cycle the fans. Once it cooled down under 200 degrees, I restarted the car and drove over the local dealership to have a look. It never went over 200 degrees for the 5 mile drive.

Once I got to the dealer, they took it into the service bay and had a look. Turns out the front radiators were clogged up with stuff and caused the fans to seize. They cleaned them out and I was on my way.

My question, has anyone else experienced this and should I be worried about an long term engine damage. Should I have the fluids flushed etc?

Many have installed grille's up front and even behind the fans. This will help keep the rads clean from debris. Spirited rides on a hot day I've seen temps creep up to 240 degree's. Wouldn't think any damage has occured and your fluids should be fine..it's a closed loop system. Would recommend installing a set of ZunSport grills, no need to remove front bumper cover and can be removed to clean out debris that gets through the screens.:https://www.zunsport.com/index.php?r...=porsche%20991 Use promo code: "RL112015" for your RL group buy discount. I've installed on mine and are happy with them. T

Thanks mate, I had a look at them. I see there are multiple sets (grill set...outer grill set) which ones are you referencing?

Once they cleaned off all the gunk, supposedly they were working fine. I drove around the rest of the evening and this morning with no issues.

.1 or .2?
The .2 can't take the grills.

Email Zunsport and tell them what you have- parking sensor, Base or S, etc
I found them to be super fast answering my questions.

After reading about another RL'r having overheating issues here a few years ago: "Spoke with my dealer, turns out fault codes for front radiator fan on both sides were triggered. After removing fender covers, both fans were jammed with gravel and dirt preventing then from spinning. No damage to the fans or radiator was discovered after cleaning out the blockage. However, this was not covered by warranty, considered wear and tear! Bad design imo due to lack of mesh covers in the front wheel wells where the fans are ventilated but exposed. You can turn your front wheels all the way to the right and see the left radiator fan exposed."
That said, elected to DIY install inner wheel well screens on my previously owned 50th: Also added custom fabricated some outer grills: Posts 76 & 81, 84-86 & 89:https://rennlist.com/forums/991/842093-g-g-5.html If you have a the powerkit with 3rd rad (standard on GTS) front bumper cover will need to be removed when running custom or the Rennlines. Like stated earlier, the ZunSports are fairly easily installed with FBC in place. T

Once I have a place to pull out the wheel wells I'm doing this ASAP. Really appreciate your insights here.

If you are interested in grill meshes, also take a look at Rennline for grill meshes that work with and without parking sensors and/or center radiator: http://www.rennline.com/Rennline-Rad...uctinfo/E1000/

The disadvantage of theirs is you have to remove the front bumper to install, but they have a video to help with that. The advantage is that I think the fitment is better than the individual slot approach the Zunsport meshes take. It's sort of personal choice thing as to which way to go.
