Default GIAC software released for 991.2 S

Surprised nobody has posted about this yet, looks like pretty insane gains!

"This calibration delivers peak-to-peak performance gains of 85 hp and 95-105 ft/lb torque. The program offers smooth part throttle driving and gear transitions, but a substantial increase in power at full load.

Software features included:
- Increased boost
- Changes to fuel and timing
- Higher torque limits

Performance gains displayed in the dyno plot shown were achieved with the GIAC software upgrade only using 93 octane. Additional power increases may be observed with additional performance hardware and/or higher octane fuel."

That's huge gains. Almost makes me nervous. I was hoping for a tune that was a little more incremental to preserve the engine and drivetrain. This much gain does feel like more stress than it was designed to handle.

Who knows....

Waiting for the first review!

The AWD system and transmission (assuming PDK) are the same as the Turbo which can handle this power no problem, launch after launch. It's all over built/overkill for the amount of power they are currently shipping the cars with.

The current 3.0TT engines are the bottom end of what this engine can handle. Porsche has planned/built in growth from the very start as this engine will be used for years and in typical Porsche fashion they will increase the output by 20-30 hp each year over that time.

If you're planning on doing the flash, you better hope the engine and drive-train can handle it because if you have an engine or drive-train problem, you better be prepared to pay for the repair.

I'm not. Don't have any interest in messing with the ECU on a brand new Porsche.

Just speaking to the drive train components and how Porsche would not design the 3.0TT at the start to be only capable of 420 hp. They will get plenty more power out of it over the years for very cheap. Sure their marketing department will dress it up and make it sound like they changed this and tweaked that, but the base engine was designed to handle more power and detuned without a doubt.

The fact that GIAC found SO much power available is evidence of this. I was expecting it to go from 420 to 470 at most not over 500. Very similar to the Nissan GTR and how overbuilt the 2009 model engines where coming from the factory with 480hp and being taken to ~700hp with simple bolt ons and tuning and to ~1000hp with added cooling and new turbos.

Completely agree, the new 3.0 motor and drivetrain with handle much more power than the currant S level of 420. I installed a VF Supercharger on my 996 4S bringing the power from a stock 320 to 470. Drove the car hard for years with zero issues, sold it with 123K miles. The new owner says the car still runs great. With over a decade of advancement from that 3.6 996 motor, I guarantee that 85 extra hp is not even close to what the new 3.0 turbo engine could actually handle in stock form.

Seems to eliminate the need for a Turbo... well you know, the "real Turbo"... very impressive gains.

Looks good, but this isn't "a plug a device in and flash at home" like COBB. You have to either go their shop or ship your ecu to them to do this. I don't see too many takers on this one. And where are the raw dyno numbers to the wheels? Their % of drivetrain loss is subjective

Agreed. Without the ability to flash back and forth from stock to tune, I will definitely pass on GIAC
And the risks at stake with voiding portions of the warranty on very expensive parts of the drivetrain just are too high

I wish they posted real dynojet RWHP or AWHP numbers. Either way, still impressive and it will be tempting to get this done couple years down the line. Risking the dealer blacklisting the power-train warranty is a scary thought though.
