Share best roads to experience in your 911
Hi everyone,
Now that I am close to getting a Porsche I plan to go to some of the greatest roads in the world and experience driving a 911 (rented or mine) there. Can you please share your favorite roads to help me complete the following list?
Austria:
1) “Gmuend, Carinthia” or Weiderost village toll road
Canada:
?
Germany:
1) Nurburgring
Italy:
1) Stelvio Pass in Eastern Alps
USA:
1) Deal's Gap - Tail of the Dragon (South Carolina - Tennessee Border)
2) Highway 101 - California North to South
Thank you!

USA / CA:
Highway 33 through Los Padres National Forest
- Ojala through Ventucopa
CA2 - Angeles Crest
- La Canada Flintridge to "Newcombs Ranch". Alternative routes exist through upper big Tujunga canyon rd to Angeles Forest Highway en route towards Palmdale. Angeles Forest Highway includes a famed stretch of "mexico" within the USA!

Hwy 12 heads east out of Escalante, UT than turns north towards Boulder. It twists, turns, rises and falls through spectacular slick rock formations. North of Boulder to Torrey it winds through the Boulder mountains. All told around 45 miles of great sports car driving. If you go in the spring and fall there's little traffic, sometimes virtually none.

The Colorado San Juan Skyway.
From my home town, Durango: north on US 550, over the San Juan Mountains through Silverton, Ouray, and Ridgway, and over 3 mountain passes. Then west on 62 and 145 (with a detour to Telluride), over another pass. Finish by cruising 160 back to Durango.

dont get lost, ToftheDragon is robbinsville NC 129 and starts at the Tenn line check their web site.
Tail to Venore then back cherohala skyway to robbinsville. Start blue ridge pky at cherokee NC to asheville, and farther east. Go north and south on 276. Go up and down 151. Go up and down 80. Go around the little switzerland loop 226.
That ought to keep you busy for a few days. You wont need to go to California after that.

I would skip the "tail of the dragon" if you want the "best road to experience your 911". The road sucks, dangerous, and you really can't have fun. Good drivers seem to get stupid real quick on that road endangering themselves and those around them. If you do go plan to go during the week. The TOD on weekends seem to attract a bunch of ********.
There are plenty of better roads in and around the same area that can show you how capable the 911 is and they are so much more enjoyable especially if you are going to be traveling with a passenger.
If you are in and around the Atlanta area there is a Porsche drive group on Facebook called "PCAR Touring". They put together some good day drives as well as some stay over drives.
Attached are some good drives in the area.

B) In all seriousness, it's not a good sportscar road. It's a fantastic touring road; in my opinion (and I've been on most of them in the US) the absolute best. But the last thing you'd want to do while driving it is be focused on the driving. I've never driven it in anything but an airport rental SUV of some sort, and I've never, not one time out of at least a dozen, wished I had my Porsche with me.

Tail of the Dragon is over-rated for cars. Super tight corners connecting short straights, with way too much traffic and no real view. A better choice in that area is the Cherahola Skyway - fast sweepers and awesome views - http://www.cherohala.org/images/imag...rohalamap2.jpg
Another excellent choice in the US is Michigan's Tunnel of Trees (https://roadtrippers.com/trips/10398335). Go during the week when traffic is light and it's an awesome sporty drive.
Lastly, in Georgia, the area around Brasstown Bald has some great roads. Take the 180-75-288-76-19-180 loop around the mountain, and then from 180 go on up to the top. Awesome. Again, go during the week when traffic is light.

Another fun road to drive now that it has nice, fresh asphalt is Hwy 381 from Georgetown to Grant, over Guanella Pass.

In the US, CA 74 from Palm Desert to Mountain Center, and then Route 243 to Idylwild; stop for lunch, and then continue on 243 back to I10 and Palm Desert.
In Italy, SS48 from the A22 to Cortina d'Ampezzo. The road is known as the "Route of the Dolomites" and it is one of the great drives in this world. Many other roads in and around that area rank up there as well.
