Default CL swap out for 5 lug?

Anyone know how big a deal (and approx how much $) it would be to swap out my CL wheels for standard 5 lug wheels?
I like the black rims but am thinking of going with a metallic finish to better compliment my silver targa hoop. I think a couple of guys with the Targa GTS spec'ed their car from the start with Turbo S wheels I believe.

Take a deep breathe, sit down and search the GT3 forum. Lots of folks there have made the switch, but it isn't cheep. Then you're left with CL wheels and hubs that you'd have to sell.

I had them on my 997 GTS. CLs are the dumbest idea for a street car IMHO.

Get your wheels professionally finished (in any silver color you desire). Probably about $800.

Not sure your first sentence is aligned to your second around reasoning?

If this is about getting a different finish/colour wheels you do not need to swap out your CL setup (replacing hubs etc)... you can refinish your existing wheels, buy a set of Turbo S center locks, buy an aftermarket set of wheels (my recommendation), etc.

Assume you're aware of that but it is unclear from your post...

Yeah, I was a little confused about that as well. If you just want silver, have them painted by a local wheel painter. Here are my GTS wheels (originally black satin) in GT Silver with the satin clear coat over top of them.

Could you save us the trouble and give us an idea, like "$250,000" or "$600" or whatever? Sounds like you've already searched the GT3 Forum and know the answer, no? I don't care enough to search (no intention of swapping, would have ordered with 5 lug if I wanted that) but it is a matter of curiosity, now that somebody's raised the question.

Thanks!

If you don't mind keeping the CLs' you could get your existing wheels powder coated for around $400-$500 to match pretty much any color you like, and the finish will be more durable than the OEM paint.

Are you sure about this? I know the 997 GT3 can be converted but is there a 991 conversion?

(I'd be highly interested in this.)

Another option is to swap for GT3/GT3RS wheels. They look fantastic on the GTS, can be found or refinished in silver, platinum, black, and bonus (to me) are OEM Porsche wheels.

Sorry I was not clear on my post; I am aware that I can have current black CL rims painted and most probably will do that.
What I really wanted to know is how much of a pain is it to just switch to 5 lug wheels if I originally have a CL configuration. I admit I did not do my homework prior to building my car and my SA did not give me the pros/cons (I did not ask). Normally it would not be a big deal as I would have just ordered next car this way but I am considering buying out this one when lease ends.

NoGaBiker- I like how your wheels came out in GT Silver. They look great with your car color.

Check the 997 GT3 forum. There is a "stickie" thread on the subject. When the switch was first proposed, the cost was $2000+ before you include the cost of the new 5 lug wheels.

Well, if it can actually be done, and if the cost is only 2g, not to be flippant but that's trivial. If the car cost 140-150k, and the new wheels are 6-9k for HRE or similar forged offerings, and that's what a person wants, what's another 2gs? Granted, taking 7,000-dollar wheels up to 9000 makes for an expensive wheel set, but in the grand scheme of things...

Thanks! Totally changed my outlook on life. Okay, maybe not that drastic. But I went from always having a little twinge of disappointment with how the car looked (unless it had bright sun streaming in from the side so the wheels were well lit) to loving it under every circumstance. Even when the wheels are dirty, which is a lot of the time.

I liked them in black just fine when they looked like this:

But most of the time it was more like this, and they sort of disappeared in the dark wheelwells:
