GT3-no wing and with a rear seat option. Interested?
Teasing, I know, but if this car were available I am curious how many of us would be a buyer. I saw one of the interviews with AP who said something to the effect, that if you want the car for track use and fast lap times go PDK, but for shear driving enjoyment (and I assume he means not on the track) go with the manual. The latter would describe my use of this car. I'm sure Porsche reads these forums, so my question again, how many would be interested in this car? Me first

There are strong rumors of a touring version of the .2 GT3 that may be announced in 12-18 months, that would be very similar to the 911R, basically a pure drivers car.
4.0L NA engine, manual only, and wingless, basically a 911R for those who couldn't get one, other than no exotic materials to reduce weight like the carbon fiber front fenders of the 911, so the body would be made out of the same materials as a Carrera. Many people in the know, including close friends in Germany do think this will happen.
The part they disagree on is whether or not it will have rear seats. Its a 50/50 split on that, because if it gets rear seats then its basically a NA 911 (which they aren't making anymore). I don't think rear seats will be included, but I do think you may see a wingless, manual only, touring version of the 4.0L GT3 sometime next year. Would still be a limited run, so I'd get a deposit down now with your dealer, if you'd want this car (with or without rear seats).

It wouldn't really be a NA GTS. There is some serious suspension magic in the GT cars. There is a bespoke 4.0 engine with 9k redline. There is a 6sp manual instead of 7sp.
When I ordered my current GTS in Feb 2015 I had a chance to buy a friend's 15 GT3 with a handful of miles; his business needed some unexpected capital and he was willing to sell it to me ASAP for $145k. I was spending the better part of 140k on the GTS so obviously the money was a wash, and I wouldn't have to wait on the GT3. I wasn't interested in buying it and flipping it -- wouldn't have felt right about doing that to my friend.
I passed, mostly because of the wing. Coupled with the GR paint job -- a beautiful and iconic color, don't get me wrong -- it was just too flashy for my purposes of a semi-daily driver. I can't take myself seriously walking out of a store or restaurant or my office and getting into a car with that wing back there.
So, to answer the OP question: if I were going to be buying another 911 in the next few years, absolutely would go GT3 with no wing and a 6sp. I'd pass on the backseats -- no need.

This limited-edition unicorn if it ever gets produced, will be just that limited and very expensive.

Absolutely, without question would pull the trigger.

I would get one as well. Not a fan of any massive wing on the streets.
