This is a discussion I've been seeing since I registered here and has somehow biased my first test-drive in the .2 Carrera. Glad my SA insisted for the test drive to happen because I was going to buy a .1C2S and thank God I didn't bought it. The .2 is way better in just everything. Make no mistakes, knowing that I can afford the new car, I will never choose the .1 Carrera (base, S or even GTS) over the .2, the improved version of the .1.
Porsche says: "new Porsche 911, the only car that can beat a 911".

^^ Wrong thread, my friend. This is not the one where we argue about the cars; this is the meta thread where we argue about the argument about the cars.

Ok everyone, let's stop! Wasn't the point of the OP to put the .1 and .2 argument to rest? To each their own and let's not make judgements about other people's decisions. You like what you like, and I like what I like, etc, etc,. 991.2 is faster, though

I want to argue whether or not we need an argument about the argument about the cars.

But can you drive it at the limit where it would make a difference? Be honest now! Right..

In the meantime, I have an old vacuum to sell you!

The arguments are always the same. As a whole the new car is better, and that's what we expect of a 911 Carrera.
Saying the outdated car is more linear, is NA, sounds better, has more soul I can't agree. If I want a NA car, linear and with soul, I would have chosen a GT3.
Otherwise I can accept other points of view and what really matters is how us, the drivers of our own cars, feel that we made the right choice. And I feel it every day.

I can't believe I've been suckered in. Ok, all you 991.1 drivers, are all you guys riding the torque curve above 4500 rpm almost all the time? Otherwise it must feel slow

Do you always need to go faster than a base 996?

Dyson V8: best of both worlds. The 991.2 soundtrack , instant torque, and 110k RPMs that will put a GT3 RS to shame. Oh and it's a V8. Electric too.

Right you are, the motor is quite lethargic below 4K RPMs? And guess what, I dig that! But the roar above that is worth the work and effort.
A turbo-loving enthusiast would hate the experience and I respect that.
But a vacuum is a vacuum, still.

I live at 7000', and some of the best nearby driving roads go even higher. Given that normally aspirated engines lose 3 to 4% for every thousand feet, anything without forced induction could be missing a third of rated power. That takes any non-turbo 911 back at least a couple of generations.

Granted that turbos are not magic, but the reduced power loss made the 991.2 the right choice for me.

Yeah, I can see in that case how an NA motor would be particularly frustrating, like someone put a restricter on your car.

both car has its own beauty in it. It's subjective..

Car will just become more and more technologically advanced.

That's just the fact, you can only do so much mechanically.

Ppl might say the same thing when Porsche comes out with hybrid for 911 and compare the to FI engine .
