Anyone here familiar with the 3M paint protection film? Negotiated front half protection on my incoming car expecting XPEL. Apparently they have switched from XPEL to 3M saying the warranty is better.

I'm sure the 3M will be fine. I was just curious if anyone had experience with it.

Most of these warranties are sales gimmicks.

XPEL or Suntek (my choice). It seems most of the elite installers use both depending on the application, but lean to Suntek.

Many installers use what's most profitable to them unfortunately.

Shop your installer - not the product. Also do a search on this. Likely it is not a good life choice to let your dealer do this...

The warranty is "better", or they get it for a "better" price? Find out the exact type of film and do some research, and/or post here for feedback.

Regarding 3M v Xpel: Technology has changed, but when I bought my S4 in 2015 the Audi dealer was pushing 3M hard and it was an inferior product. I ended up having one of the best detainers in our area do paint correction (yup, swirls on a brand-new car), Xpel with full hood, and Opti for less than what Audi wanted just for 3M.

The dealer is doing, or subbing out, the installation? I would only trust a well-known detailer with PPF installation. I know you negotiated it into the price, but you really need to find out exactly who is doing the installation.

From Nashville I would take a nice drive across the mountains to these guys who did a fine Xpel front wrap and full car Ceramic Pro for me. The also do all of BMW cars at the Spartanburg Performance Delivery Center.

I probably have had a dozen cars with 3M film and have never had any issues with yellowing or peeling, as long as a pro did the install. We did have a '07 SL500 that we bought used from a 3M engineer who had done the wrap himself and on that you could see where he didn't go under the headlights, etc. but the film itself was good after eight or nine years. Right now we have three cars with 3M (hey it's Minnesota) and they're all good. I can post pics if you want.

This is a highly regarded product that dealers will charge hundreds of dollars for but is an easy enough DIY that is proven and recommended.

Wish I'd have known... I drove to Greensboro from Charlotte; past dozens of PPF guys to have someone there do mine. Would have given you a heads up.

Are you going to fix this?

Side note as to the installer.... I was parked next to another 991 at Cars and Cappuccino this weekend with ppf and had to debate someone that my car was in fact covered in film. Literally had to get right up on my car to show it. The Poor 991 next to me had a dealer installed saran wrap covering that didn't have a single uniform edge and you could tell from 20-30 feet away. His has suntek - a more transparent film if done right and mine has Xpel which is more noticeable with the same instal.

The film on your car definitely looks like it has a "flatter" look to it than the uncovered paint. Probably wound't notice it on my white car (unless it yellows) but it seems a shame to cover up a deep factory shine with plastic to save the paint. I get it that you will avoid stone chips, but you don't really get the brilliance of an uncovered paint finish do you?

The PPF does cut the crispness of the shine but you have to look closely to notice it
