Default Why are there holes in the steering column?

Zoom in the picture to see a ~5mm hole on the top of the steering column. There is one on the left, too. These holes look like they were cut with an X-Acto knife. They're left looking raw and unfinished.

Why are these holes there? My SA showed me pics of other 911s with GT wheels and leather columns having these holes. He says they're there to access the install and removal of the column (or something like that).

Does anyone else have these holes? If you do and hadn't noticed until now, sorry. I wish I hadn't noticed them.

And, why didn't Porsche finish them off with a grommet or cap? They're just left raw.

If you are going to get picky, why didn't Porsche line up the deviating stitching on the leather steering column option? I think that is much more noticeable than the small hole.

You think the small holes are picky? Would you mind if I cut two small holes in your leather interior? Give me a break! These are holes cut with an X-Acto blade. It looks vandalized. If Porsche found it necessary to have these holes, they should have finished them off with a grommet or cap.

You have a mouse. Buy a cat ASAP and leave him in the car with water, but no food. He will eventually catch it. Also be sure he still has all of his claws.

Agreed. They should have been finished with a plug considering what you paid to have the steering column wrapped in leather. Surprised that that passed inspection at the factory.

This is bad. Find it hard to believe it's standard procedure. Contact PCNA.

Could the dealer have done this??

Seems very amateurish on Porsche's part.

I zoomed all around your pix but didn't see anything until your last image. I blame Garage Talk app. Maybe it's more obvious on a computer - but do you mean these holes?

Apologize for the screenshot photo of a photo - GT won't let me add the photo I just edited (markup) / but the screenshot is a workaround.

It's a warranty item. Take it back and have them fix it. That really is awful. You were not exaggerating when you say it looks like it was cut with an exacto knife.

No, he posted one that has a rough cut hole to the right of the column. There is no uniformity to it and it is not finished or "rounded in by the leather". I have never seen anything like it and do not blame him for being upset.

Thanks for posting that last pic, had no idea what the heck you were referring to.

Agreed, that looks very poor. If the holes are necessary, then they should be cut / finished better. I would not accept as is either.

This is what I thought the OP was referring to.

What the heck are these little vent looking things anyway?
