Default 991.2 opinion

I figured because it is Monday and a good debate gets the mental and physical juices flowing---I would share my opinion on the new 991.2 911 S vs 991.1 911 S----The 991.2 911 S had only 2900 miles so it may loosten up a bit but I do not believe the character of the car will change---my 991.1 S has 32K miles---both cars are PDK with PASM Sport and PSE.

Exterior: Out of respect and coutesy for owners of both 991.1 and 991.2---let's call it a draw----a good debate shouldn't start with "My wife is better looking than your wife"....even if she is....

Interior: An edge to the 991.2---Apple Play and bluetooth connectivity is much faster and easier to do---I don't have to choose my source each time I get in my car----and sometimes my car will not connect----the steering wheel looks good on the 991.2 but feels cheaper to the touch---edge to 991.1 with Sport Design wheel(miss audio controls every once in awhile but I like the crisp elegant look of the 991.1

Performance: Yes, the 991.2 is faster and easier to drive quickly around town---it is also without much emotional involvement---the engine does sound like a vacuum cleaner ---only mercedes (4.0 V8) has figured out how to make a turbo engine sound right in my opinion----the 991.2 is just like the latest bmw M cars---faster but so little sensory feedback that it is boring to drive----
The 991.1 is a joy to listen to and drive and its 3.9 second 0-60 never fails to make me feel like I am going fast enough---

After driving my friends 991.2 911 S for nearly 1 hour----my buddy drove my old "POS" 2012.5 911'S----he spoke first, he wished he had found a used 991.1 911 S for @ 85K versus the $134K he just paid---

The 991.2 is realy nice but the sound is just not there----Driving a fun sports car can be like having "relations" with a pretty woman---sometimes the slower, more vocal woman is a better ride!
Cheers

If you want the "turbo" experience, find a 2014-2016 used CPO 911 TURBO with 10K for @$135K---much better car IMO---

you should add your biased, same old comments to one of the 429 threads that already exist on this beaten to death topic.

Agreed 1,000%.

Each generation is faster and more advanced but trades off the primitive excellence that make a sports car. 991.1 to 991.2 = 997 to 991.1 discussion. I guess we all are fortunate to live in a time where we can choose which end of the spectrum we want in terms of performance, sound, feel and technology. The 991.1 is right in a sweet spot for me. I do wish I could get the 991 chassis with the 993 infotainment and electronic oversight. Basically what it comes down to is that a Singer 911 is the only 911 we can all agree on!

maybe it is 430 threads---lol

---my opinion and thread is based upon "my" very first extended drive in a broken in 991.2----I typically have and do upgrade my vehicles when a new model comes out----I really liked the 991.2--not a bad 911---just a very "clinical car that needs a proper voice---

Cheers

I don't understand the "vacuum cleaner" comment from 991.1 owners. I had a 991.1 C2S that I sold for my 991.2 C4S--both with PSE. I loved my .1. Loved the look and feel, the acceleration, the sound--in short, everything about it. I like my .2 better. Except the sound, but I like it equally well, it's not quite as loud and the tone is lower, but it sounds great. And it's definitely not a whooshing, vacuum cleaner sound as some describe. A buddy (serial Porsche owner) ran out of gas on the hill approaching my neighborhood and called me. I was on my way home in the P-car and stopped to make fun of him and let him know I would bring him gas in my truck. I took off up the hill at full throttle, exchanged the Porsche for the truck and gas, then returned to make fun of him some more. The first thing he said as I pulled up was, "Your Porsche sounded awesome!" Can we stop with the vacuum cleaner description and just agree the .1 and .2 sound is different and you prefer one to the other?
I don't think it's necessary but I'm going to get the Fabspeed headers and sport cats for a little more volume.

We'll just start saying it sounds like a Dyson. At least it sounds like an expensive vacuum cleaner.

When I test drove the .2, I was very impressed with the changes to the steering, the suspension and the interior (wheel/PCM, etc.). The car drove really well, could tell it was FI but it wasn't laggy, though I didn't really notice the power diff much. I didn't launch the car though.

The sound inside the car was okay, but outside it was meh. And when the salesman drove away, it sounded exactly like an angry vacuum cleaner. And the videos of the GTS on track just sound awful IMO, like a fart can Honda driving past.

Honestly, I think the .2 sounds way better without PSE and I could almost buy one, but they went and killed off my Sport Technos, which pretty much kills it for me. And, honestly, I don't think I could give up the high RPM wail of my .1.

So then the 991.1 is a washing machine, lots of noise but it goes nowhere.......

This topic is so ridiculous and it draws out all of the 991.1 cheerleaders that beat the same old horse...... no matter how you guys word it your bias shows.

Thread should be renamed "Justifying Why I'm Missing Out on 991.2 Awesomeness"

I agree---The 991.2 I drove didn't "feel" faster to me either----but it was clearly faster as I left my old 991.1 in the rear-view mirror. The 991.2 has some very distinct advantages to the 991.1---handling with rear wheel steering, Apple Carplay, etc....however exhaust note is not one of the advantages.
I can see why some people might enjoy the quieter engine note of the 991.2---in traffic or as a dailty driver in SoCal with concrete freeways---the lower noise levels may be welcome---just not to me.

I drive my 911 @ 6K miles year---it is not a daily driver---I am even thinking of putting an AWE exhaust or AKRA exhaust---so I can hear even more engine roar---it is a personal choice.

I am not saying my 991.1 is great and someone else's 991.2 is inferior to mine---The reality is , turbos (FI) change the engine sound---ask anyone what sounds better a Ferrari 458 or a 488? 458 everytime---now ask which one is faster---488 everytime---or 911 Turbo S versus 911 GTSRS....

Cheers

I will say you two are the better of the .1 advocates, there are clearly those who dislike the .2 and take every opportunity to tell of the superiority of the .1 (at least in their minds). It gets rather old. I love my .2 C2 and it's loads of torque, it's PDK non PSE. I'm old and deal daily with Southern California traffic. My choice was based on these criteria. That being said, I really like .1 with the sport design (just the duck, not the dual spoiler) and would've been happy had I bought one. I think the 991, both the .1 and .2 is the nicest design of the later year 911's.

I like all the loud noises my .1 makes when it's in the stumbling "herky jerky" band of the rev range.
