I was thinking about your post again after watching this:

Seems to me that high HP cars are just better off with AWD, although some of these have that feature and yet foolish people once again prove that no matter how much technology, you can't be saved from yourself. Many clips are just crazy driving, but quite a few of cars going out of control with too much power and not enough traction.

So why do you own one? And by that logic, we really don't need anything more powerful than a Civic LX....

Sorry, just don't buy the argument.

You live in Texas... so why? Same reason we all need high capacity firearms in the caliber of our free choosing.

Or you could take it to the track or even autocross and have a lot more fun with one than a Prius...

0 to 60 is so important in the US because its right around the speed limit on most on ramps. A narrow representation of what the car can really do.

911's typically dont auto cross well. There is to much understeer in the chassis. As speeds progress it settles down and can be enjoyed on larger tracks. There are other cars better suited if one is focused on auto cross.

Scheduling is a problem on big tracks unless one has frequent leisure time available. Most track days in the North east are limited to weekdays and many of the tracks have gone private. So seat time is hard to come by. Yes, one can argue in joining a private track. Typically there is a 20 to 45k expence in doing so and yearly dues that can reach 10k. Other parts of the country are probably much cheaper though.
