Default 991.2 PSE vs base exhaust

Sorry if this has been hashed out before...

I'm moving from my GT4 for a number of reasons, one of which is a bad case of tinnitus that makes driving the GT4 aggressively an unpleasant experience. The thing sounds incredible, which is a shame.

So I've spec'ed the base exhaust on my 991.2 for that reason. That and I really don't like the way PSE looks (no offense). Sound clips I've heard from the PSE aren't convincing me that it's an absolutely essential option.

Anyone who's driven both variants - I'd be interested in any comparisons.

I don't like loud noise.
No SE on my 991.2, sounds fine, turn to Sport or Sport Plus, tone lowers, more pops, enough for me.
First Cayman I test drove had a resonance, no Cayman for me of any kind.-Richard

budrichard, seems like you and I are the minority around here. I don't like the noise, either. What makes a Porsche to me is the handling and performance. I could do without the noise, which is why my other car is a Tesla Model S P90D. It has performance (that only a Turbo S may come close to). But it has neither the noise (good for me) nor the handling of a 911.

I suffer from tinnitus as well. I test drove a 2015 911 without PSE but on the highway with the throttle wide open I found the interior noise so loud, it was a major negative for me. I then drove a 2017 C2S with PSE in the city and even under hard acceleration, I found the car much quieter. While I'm sure many don't like the quieter drive, I sppreciate the change. I've read some posts on this forum about exhaust noise. It seems there is a sono tube that is accessible behind the rear seats that can be blocked to reduce the interior noise. I didn't find the exterior exhaust sound (PSE) to be bothersome in the city but I didn't wind the car out on the highway. Best advise I can give is to test drive both.

If I had a 991.2.... I'd do straight pipes. One in town sounds glorious.

Have you considered a 991 turbo? The turbo cars have a unique sound, and it is much more muted than the other 911 variants. PSE is not an option on the turbo.

The 991.2 is indeed quieter than the 991.1.
At highway speeds, the main source of noise in my 991.2 C4S is from the tires and not exhaust, nothing to be done about it. Around town, windows up, it's quiet to me.
I would suspect that a 991.2 C2 would be the quietest but one should really drive one to find out.-Richard

These are symposer tubes. There are two of them on a 911.

To the OP: I agree on the looks of the exhaust tips. I like the quads much better. It just makes the car look more aggressive and wider.

I have a 991.2 C2 on order, and I am getting PSE. While I agree with those of you who prefer a quiet environment (most of the time), there is that one evening once a week where you need more! The nice thing about PSE is that it sounds the same as the base exhaust...until I press the button. So the way I see it it's a 3k option to ensure I won't have any regrets about the sound.

I also prefer the quad pipes - and the toned down noise. I find the sound to be sufficient for sure.

Its a flat six, you only need two pipes (have a look underneath ) PSE works very well, you can switch it on or off

I don't see much attractive about pipes anyway. Less of them put anywhere is fine. It's about the sound.

adding two extra cosmetic pipes doesn't deliver a different sound - there is one pipe run from each bank of cylinders (boxer six) The PSE offers a tuned aural experience you don't have to like it, yet it exists.
