Yup. You read the title correctly.
In some country in Asia, you need to put down 30% of Final car price as Deposit and wait 4 or 5 months to get your car.
The import Tax is 76.5%. A mildly optioned 991.2 C2S is about 220k usd.
There is zero discount. Repeat buyers get 1% off.
In other words, you need to pay 60K to 70K usd of deposit to order a 991.2 C2S.
If you change your mind and do not take the delivery, the penalty is 10% of the car price, taken out of your deposit.
If enough people replies, I will reveal this lovely country.
Ironically, this country also has the highest number of Porsche imported, adjusted for population size.
Truly a slaughter house here.

I am surprised that Porsche would allow that kind of customer abuse.

What does Porsche care? They want to sell cars. They going to argue with the Taiwan regime?
I'm sure much more serious abuses going on over there than import tax gouging enriching the regime while they export the rest of the world everything under the moon.

The import tax would be a trade issue for sure, but still, how big can the market be when a base 911 costs a qtr mil? It just stinks and it can't be good for the brand image to be associated with this kind of gouging.

Yet, they can't sell enough of them there.
The gov't there has these duties on all kinds of goods. Nothing new. A reality there.

This is not just a Porsche issue; Taiwan has high import duties against all goods from countries that it doesn’t have specific trade treaties. Why buy German luxury cars with such a punishing duty? I’ve always been told that Chinese people like to show their wealth, even though the Chinese people I grew up with were modest and practical. Although Chinese people love to gamble, so there is some contradiction that don’t fully understand.

I live in a university town that has a large international student population. Very common to see Bentley, Aston Martin, Porsche, one Lamborghini that I know of, and 6 figure Mecedes, BMW and Audi near campus. Not hard to understand why when these cars are a bargain compared to what they cost in their home country.
I've heard a rumor that the parents buy these cars for their kids to use for a year or two and then ship them back home to sell for huge profit. Again rumor...
