Default DE next weekend - Magnet, Vinyl or Static Cling Numbers

I've got my first DE in the 991 (not my first DE) and I was thinking about getting numbers for my car. I planned on getting magnetic numbers that I could put on and take off without damaging the car. It just hit me that I think I read that the doors and hood are aluminum and thus a magnet won't stick to them...Has anyone used Static Cling Numbers? I'd like to find a temporary - reusable solution that will obviously not peel off at speed...any suggestions?

Static cling work well. Wet the door first. They should hold tight until you want them off.

I like the vinyls that sun coast sells.

I use vinyl shelf paper and cut my own. Use once and throw away. No residue. I've never had any blow off.

Could be messier than vinyls, but I've found that taking a paper template and spraying numbers on with Plastidip works very well and won't peel off at any speed or in any weather conditions. Plus I like that I can spray in many different colors, and I keep a set of number templates around so I can spray any number that I need. Oh and the dip cans are like $5 and last an entire season if you keep the nozzle clean. After DE just peel off.... as with any of the options, make sure the surface is prepped!

I used the temporary vinyl decals. I put wax on the doors first. No residue or marks and stuck perfectly. Bought back-up numbers from suncoast just in case. The problem with static cling is that I was warned they could come off at high speed. Check out the website above. They make recommendations.

I use magnetic #s. I affix them

on the top of each wheel well. They will not adhere to doors.

Shoe polish works great. Unless you want to look like a race car, then get a whole bunch of stickers

Unless it rains, then the polish runs down the windshield and stains the rubber seal.

Once I had to put an 'X' on my car to indicate that I was new to the track, I used duct tape because I had it and it was a nice contrast to my black bumper. What a mistake - never use duct tape!

I just did an autocross this weekend. I went to put on the magnetic number sheet I had previously used on my 997.2 and discovered the door on my 991 is aluminum. I hadn't realized this... but it was a pleasant discovery. Fortunately it taped on just fine. The magnetic sheet numbers don't work well on curves so the lower door is the only good choice for this.

So no benefit to magnetic sheet numbers on a 991 (like those shown on the photo below).

Just for kicks: Here's a shot with a nearly perfect kiss of a cone. Notice the near absence of body roll in an aggressive turn with the PDCC sport suspension.

I have both the vinyl and magnets, depending on the car. The soloperformance ones mentioned above work well. I haven't lost any at speed (Daytona for instance).

Remember, Magnets will not work on your doors or your hood as they are aluminum.

But did they make you faster?

I use vinyl. Works well and beats using painter's tape!
