Fabspeed vs. AWE vs. PSE vs. Others?
Hello all!
I'm expecting delivery of a '13 991 in the next day or two (trading in my Macan) and it doesn't come with PSE. I enjoyed PSE on an earlier 991 I had but I'm wondering if I should do something different on this one.
My budget is around $2k and I'd like to find a solution that I can install myself (a nice to have, not need to have). Something with an "on/off" valve is great but most I've seen outside of PSE is well outside of my budget. I want something that brings a smile to my face but isn't obnoxious - I don't plan on tracking the car.
Any advice?

Is the car an S?
I think Sharkwerks makes a solution that does not switch, but does make the stock exhaust louder.
The PSE can be installed on an S for about $1,400, if you're willing to do the labor.

I was in a similar position although with an "S" and ended up installing the PSE switch with AWE switchpath. Best modification hands down. The switch would require your dealership to reprogram but that should take no longer than 1.5 hours.

With your budget what you seek will be difficult to do at least with a new system. Sharkwerks maybe is your only option for new aftermarket. After that AWE can be had for about $2200-2500 depending on the vendor. Fabspeed maybe a bit more. You still won't have on/off button capability with either at your price point.
Parts to retrofit PSE button control or any other valve control (Fabspeed offers I think) will cost you more to do! PSE parts would run you about $495-695 just for the parts to do the retrofit. Install at most dealers and reprogramming of the PSE button to control the exhaust is about $800-1600 as many service department quotes vary across the map from others who have done it. IF you do PSE Suncoast will sell you the kit for about $2500 I think and then if you can do the install yourself you'll save the $1100 or so install and labor costs. But you'll still need to go to the dealer to program it.
I chose PSE retrofit with parts from my dealer who matched Suncoast cost..actually beat them and then added an Akrapovic Ti exhaust (definitely not cheap but is agreed to be one of the best sounding exhaust for the 991IMHO). Yes other stuff to spend my $$ on but afterall this is a $100k plus car and the sound of the car is a part of the essence of the 991 Carrera so I figured it best to spend the coin where it counted for me as the car is a keeper. Good luck and hope this helps.

Hey Guys!
For your reference the S Non PSE and S PSE cars have a valved center muffler (Non PSE more for resonance control than anything) from factory that dictates valvetronic fitment side mufflers (they are more offset) and exhaust tips (dual inlet vs single inlet). The base model 991 does not have the ability to run a valvetronic center muffler or aftermarket valvetronic X-Pipe alone, it would also have to have factory or aftermarket valvetronic fitment side mufflers and exhaust tips installed at the same time.
That being said a base 991 owner can either upgrade their individual exhaust components to maximize their valveless exhaust note potential, or they can go full monte with a complete valvetronic catback system replacement. Here is a link to our full 991 product offerings for reference.

To note, our valvetronic systems for Non PSE equipped cars come with wireless key fobs to actuate the valves open or closed. However, I have had several Porsche clients of mine sync their Homelink garage door buttons with the wireless control module we include with our system.

It is within your budget at $1095, and in eliminating your factory center muffler it will provide a subtle and nice improvement in overall sound level and exhaust note, especially on full throttle. Off throttle it will be hard to tell it isn't factory, so it certainly wouldn't be considered obnoxious. PM heading your way now, and I look forward to working with you
