Default Be wary of a 2017 that went through auction?

I am still working on a few 991.1 deals but found an out of state dealer that has a 991.2 that they bought at auction (also out of state from them). The car has low miles and the carfax is clean (I know they aren't reliable). Thoughts? Trying to decide if something is fishy. The car is about 15% off sticker without CPO before negotiating. Its not a day trip to go see the car so there is some blind trust...

If you are serious about the car, have a RELIABLE indie or Porsche service dept. do a complete PPI. When I was in the market for a TT a few years back I had quite a few of them done on cars I was serious about. Not cheap to do, but proved smart as a lot of the cars I was looking at were NOT as they were presented, and would have cost me far more had I bought them. Good luck. Do a PPI!

I would be.

Damage at port, Flood car, Rebuilt title being scrubbed clean through an out of state auction or it could be a deal.

If purchased I would want the selling dealer to research the history and put it in writing from birth until now and have an out in your purchase agreement if the history is incorrect the car can be returned.

At auction raises red flags to me. Even if someone has already sold their 2017 or traded it in, what dealer wouldn't keep a good version on their lot for resale? They surely paid wholesale if they're willing to sell it at the auction in the first place.

Have the dealership CPO the car. Assuming it's at a Porsche dealership. Scooter100 is not clear on this point.

It's at a Porsche dealer. The best I can tell is that it hit auction through a trade via a non-Porsche dealer.

Scooter100, manual or PDK? If manual, post the DME over-revs report here, complete with time stamps and total op hours and complete odo mileage.

If you can send me the dealer listing I can probably give you a lot of info on the car including how much the dealer bought it for. You can PM if you like.

Having said that, if this is your first P car, I would go NA at least once before jumping into a turbo car.

Not many .2's have been through auction. Is it a black 2S coupe with about 1500 miles?

Totally agree! I could've bought a used TT but wanted to experience the NA engine before. Turbos aren't going anywhere.

I have owned several Cayman S and grew up driving air-cooled 911s. I am struggling between a 991.1 and 991.2. I was firmly in the NA camp and after a few more test drives, I am coming around to considering the turbo motor. Whomever makes me the better deal will probably win.

Could have been traded in to a non-Porsche dealer who flipped it at auction. Happens all the time.

IMO, and as you may be aware, the only reason a car ends up at auction is because, in the owners eyes, it's a dog and he would have a hard time selling it.

The fact a Porsche dealer is pushing it is a +. As is the fact you've got a lot of warranty time left. However, as a used car purchase, you probably lose any claim to lemon status should the thing run you into that condition.

15% off MSRP on a used, base, 911.2 is understandable, given that, virtually, the entire Porsche universe longs for an S. This might possibly be the reason the car ended up at auction.

Are you aware whether or not the auction it came from was an exclusive Porsche dealer only auction?

It is actually a 4S. Looks like it was a straight dealer to dealer trade. Both cars I am deciding about are 4S.
