I had the same experience at a recent track day - 260-270 oil temps... It was warm, which certainly didn't help. I'm considering the 3rd radiator, but was curious if anyone makes a larger or better oil cooler, as i imagine that is much more effective at dropping oil temp than a radiator...

Note that I believe PDK 'cooling' is a separate system.

I agree with you. But if you look at videos on PDK cars because the way the PDK works it keeps the RMPs higher that on manual cars. I believe because of this PDK cars are going to experience higher oil temperatures. A perfect example is applying power after a turn a manual car usually stays in the same gear. PDK on the other hand will drop the lowest usable gear.

Manual transmission. I would be very interested in additional oil cooling. While adding a third radiator will help I've never seen the coolant temp budge above or below 194 degrees (I understand Porsche manipulates this gage).

I did. I live in Phoenix and my 4S faulted for oil temp during a hot track day. Third cooler fixed the issue.

That's good to hear, I was worried I was going to need to research an additional engine cooler. Third radiator goes on this winter

Is there a DIY on the 3rd radiator kit? I would think it is a simple mechanical job but I am not sure if the radiator purging is going to be tricky. The Suncoast website warns that it should be done by a professional.

I'm seriously considering the 3rd radiator as well, as I've read positive feedback re lowering oil temps... I was worried a radiator may not be enough, and I'd need a distinct oil cooler, but seems not... Basic question, but do I need the sport design front bumper too, or is it compatible with the standard 4S bumper?

Also, I've noticed that PDK oil temp isn't an option to display, but I recently got a bluetooth OBDII reader (for Harry's lap timer), and am hoping that trans temps are available through it...

The Rennline one looks like the same OEM parts obviously at a lower $$.

Pretty basic install by a tech. Looks better aesthetically and better cooling. Standard issue on the GTS and all 991's in the Middle East countries.

Since the bumper is coming off, good time to do Rennline grills too.

Yes just got mine done in July. Here in Az [where I am stationed now temps get above 110-115 in June-July easy]. For me it was an afterthought as I was adding Rennlinne Black mesh grilles to my OEM bumper and then wanted to do the center mesh also. My dealer SA called and said that it looked very empty in there without the radiator and they also would need to paint some parts that would otherwise show as primer and if I had thought about adding the 3rd radiator kit. I had and he matched Suncoast pricing so I pulled the trigger. Car was then hit four days after I got the mod done in Vegas. Have since added the Sports Design bumper during the repair (other guy was at fault so I just paid the difference in parts) and must say it looks the business with the third radiator addition. No issues with install the body shop says...just needed to order the proper duct work for the Sports Design w/3rd radiator as I had duct work and fittings for the OEM bumper w/3rd radiator prior. Great and useful mod tho. Not hugely expensive and reasonable I think.

Hi All,

I just had my 991S out on track for the first time this weekend. In 70F temps, running very hard in group 0 I was seeing oil temps up to 275 F which is pretty high. I'm planning on doing the 3rd radiator mod, and for those that have done it, how big a drop in oil temp did you experience?

Thanks,

John

I ran mine in similar ambient air temps and recall a 30+ degree oil temp drop. It's good insurance to help keep engine temps cooler overall. I really like mine. Great peace of mind to boot.

X51 - exactly what I was hoping to hear. Thanks!

Sounds like there will be a 3rd rad going on my car before the next track day...

I have a 3rd radiotor sitting in a box and have helped someone else install... It's a 2 hour job for a tech and a 4 hour DIY. Hardest parts or removing the bumper and losing coolant.
