By making only 911 of them, the 991R is essentially a halo car. Call it whatever you want, every manufacturer does this to some extent. Whining about it is a waste of time. Manufacturers don't have a responsibility to the market to make a certain volume of anything. If people want to cut off their nose to spite their face and go buy from a different manufacturer, that's their prerogative. Porsche will be fine.

It was never intended to be a response to enthusiast demand for a high hp, lightweight, 6 speed Carrera. If it was, they would have positioned it as such and made more of them. It was always intended to be a very exclusive, special car sold only to a select few, that raises interest in the brand. I think that's the very definition of a halo car. I think people are just pissed because Porsche isn't giving them what they feel they are entitled to.

The definition of a halo car is an exclusive car, sold only to a select few, that enforces brand identity in such a way that it drives market interest in the marque overall and drives buyer interest in the higher volume cars where the company makes its money. All of Porsche's GT cars are halo cars, as they all support the ethos of Porsche being a high performance brand. That sells normal Carreras. It even helps sell Cayennes and Macans.

How many 911R do you think they would sell if it were a regular production car?
200K is a lot of money even in these times, but I am pretty sure I would pony up for one. Never 450K though.

Lol, idiot money for the foolish anything upward of $500k, much less $1 mm. Hysterical.
Early "used" CGTs were selling for up to $1.2 and I actually purchased mine late in the production run below sticker when the individual that placed a deposit on my car backed out and the dealer offered it to me at sticker minus deposit and hold back.
Neighbors' Pagani or Appollo for something unique and less $$$, but at the end of the day I would take a 488 or Huracan over this car.
