Took my 2017 991.2 to the track to help break it in
After waiting the prerequisite time to receive my new 991.2 Carrera S, I thought it was time to take it to the track.
Drove to Thunderhill Raceway in Willows CA on Friday to attend a HOD HPDE, arrived at the track with just over 500 miles and spent a fun day getting used to the car.
I will post my observations and thoughts on the new car - let's just say I am very very pleased I moved from a 991.1 to the .2
Here a link to one of the sessions.

My Fiesta ST lap
Some HPDE footage from my Fiesta ST. Overheated a couple times with 115 degree heat.
Congrats on the 991.2. I have a new 991.2 C2 but haven't tracked yet. At 500 miles too.

Typical summer day at Thunderhill, only about 105 degrees, no cooling worries what so ever - the highest oil temperature is saw was about 256 degrees, water only made it to 198 degrees, the cooling system is very impressive

How did you know the coolant on made it to 198? Unless things have changed the coolant temp gauge is not accurate, although usually it is pegged at 194

500 mi and track: very game. And I thought I was a badass taking mine to 165-170 on the A-bahn during last full day of ED (at ~ 1k mi mark)
Like the colour-match badging & model delete: very clean

Nice break in runs. Watching your lines and corner exit speeds, I think the car can do 1:50 laps pushed hard. I've been under 1:55 in a 15' C2S with sticky tires.

I almost went to this event, but waffled. Glad you like your new car. What model are you coming from?
Did you like the format of the event? Can you talk a little about the track time and thoughts compared to a regular track day, and did you get track insurance? Lastly, Which exhaust are you running? It does seem pretty quiet based on the video.

It would be interesting to see how your car would hang with the GT3 if both were driven full tilt.

I have run about 10 HOD events in N. Cal and not had any issues, they try to do a good job policing behavior on the track.
I didn't get track insurance - I know it's a risk but... The car has the Sport Package Sports exhaust, with rear wheel steering, sports chrono, I really like the smaller diameter sports steering wheel.

I'm sure a better driver than myself could get into the 1:5x with the car, the stock PZero's did get a little slick over the runs and definitely need a new alignment more suited to track driving, next time I'm at the track I'll be running the same wheels and tires (Trofeo R) that I had on my 14 C2S, which will help the times.

1:55 in a C2S is very impressive! Is that with or without the bypass at turn 5? Do you have a video of that? I've seen a GT4 do a 1:58 and a 997 Cup car do a 1:52 so 1:55 is awesome.
Leecw: great video! I love seeing brand new cars going to the track. Funny seeing you blast past that GT3. At least its owner is going to the track; too many GT3s look very clean and never see anything other than the commute to the office.

Great video. i'm planning on taking my 991.2 to the track after 1 month of ownership. As I am leasing the car, could this cause any issues with Porsche warranty if it's under the break-in period?
