Default Resetting Service Reminder - Launch X-431R

Hello friends... I'm happy to report that I'm finally able to reset my service reminder with a cheap device.

I bought the device on eBay: Launch X-431 R Diagnostic Tool Reset Automotive Oil Lamp Service Light

http://www.ebay.com/itm/181645870352

Excellent seller, they shipped quick for being from China. Only 3 business days to Kansas City. Very responsive too.

Once received, I downloaded the software to update the device here:
http://www.dbscar.com/pad/landingPag...etterII.action

When you first use the device, you may need to change the language to English. I select option 4, then kept clicking until I saw the word English.

The device works really well. Instruction can be found by googling "Launch Cresetter II." FYI, OBD port can be found behind the cover next to the foot rest pedal. Let me know if you have any questions. When connected, your car should be in the off position. Once connected and the device powers up, switch the ignition on (but engine off).

Cheers to a cheap alternative to Durametric.

-Jimmy

Gives me the *******. Just not sure about anything shipped from China that I have to keep hitting down arrow until I see English near the 911.... Maybe just me! Zen and the art of Porsche I suppose.. Glad you are happy, thx for being brave & beta testing (and reporting back)!

I paid $40. Now that I know it works, I would've been happy to pay the full $49.

Thank you. I hate to break it to you, but most of your nice electronics are also made in China. I'll be happy to buy a bulk, upgrade the firmware, and change the language to English and sell them on here for $175. It took me 1min to figure out the English menu and 10min to upgrade the software.

All it does is clear your service light, nothing else. No harm.

Guys who think nothing but the best touches their Porsche are driving the market price for parts and service to where it is.

Example, an oil change for a Porsche is no harder than an Acura. However, one dealer charges $50 for an oil change vs $250. I only spent $60 on my oil change, I bet I did a more thorough job than a rookie tech that's usually assigned to easy jobs.

P.S. Life lesson is, if you don't want your products being copied never outsource to China. They're very good at reverse engineering.

Cheers.

The 987/997 crowd has been using these for a while (including me), they work great. Super easy to use except for the initial setup to change the language to english, but if you follow the well documented procedure, that is easy as well.

My dealer will usually reset the service reminder for free anyway, but it is still way easier to have a tool in my own garage.

Glad to hear confirmation it works on 991.1 vehicles. There are a couple of other threads claiming it doesn't work on the new 991.2 cars. Can anyone verify one way or the other?

On the 991.1 does it reset all 3 service indicators? Can you specify which one it resets?

Correct, you can specify and reset each one of them. I accidentally reset all of them, oh well.

Thanks for researching this Jimmy!
I will definitely be placing an order for one of these, as my closest dealer is a 4 hour round trip.
Resetting the service reminder with this tool would be a great candidate for a how to video. Maybe make it a sticky...............................make it even better by including the steps to update the software for the device and setting it up for English.
