The original one that I purchased would not update the firmware. The US Seller did take it back and I am awaiting a refund. He told me that they opted to no longer sell this option. Once received, I will let you know how I make out.
I don't think this one will reset oil reminders. They just released the 7S version that advertises having the Cresetter functionality combined with the Creader code reading functions. However, if it works with software updates please do share as they can be found for $39 from China sellers versus $65 for a Cresetter II or $70 for the new Creader 7S. Seems like X-431R sources are dried up.

I bought this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/181645870352

After finding the English language option and getting the firmware to update, it has worked to reset the oil service reminder lights not only for 991 but also in my Macan and Cayman GTS. It is not that intuitive to figure out but it does work and the price is hard to beat.

See my link above. That seller out of China still sells these. I have one on order and hope to have better luck, than I did with the first one. I will report back.

@2001f4s - definitely interested to see how you make out with the Creader product.
As @wanlong found, the seller says the X431 has been discontinued.
In the mean time, I guess I'll have to find a generous dealer or a local Durametric.

I made an offer on this product:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/152163265079...S:1123&vxp=mtr

it arrived last night. Software update was pretty straightforward. It supports a pile of manufacturers.

It walked me through a menu where I got to select which of the 3 maintenance minders I wanted reset. I selected #3 (the oil change) and it worked perfectly.

If anyone wants photos of the various screens as you go through the process, I'd be happy to hook it up again and post them.

I made an offer on the eBay listing and ended up getting $10 off BIN price.

Ok, a little embarrassing, but after 4 attempts to get one of these to work, I was finally successful. I have a nice collection of Launch products now.

That is hilarious! First time I used mine it didn't do a dam thing. 10 trys later it reset the service reminder only to have it come back one day later. Fiddled with it again and if finally gave in. Not the sharpest tool in the box for sure. Requires multipale atemps. Good news is that it reset my 2007 MB service reminder as well..

I'm glad someone else can find the humor in my pain. .
I too was happy to just have the damn thing working. Now I have 3 other units that I can use to level my table.

Looking for the Launch X-431 R online (or equivalent) but eBay looks out of stock. Has anyone found one for sale recently? Oil change in my C4S took 30 minutes, but finding this is taking much longer!

Are you still happy with this product?

What he said, anyone buy anything recently that works? Most of the links in this thread are no good anymore.

I just bid on this eBay, got it for $60.
Merchant said it works on 2010 911 4S. Will try it out tomorrow to reset the oil light.

I am! I have used it on my 991, 958 and my wife's Z4.

2010 has a different DME. Ask if it works on 2012 1/2 and up. Looks similar to what I purchased so you may be fine.
