17 things I think I think

The 997 would look huge next to the cars posed above too. Lets see the 991.2 next to 997. I recall reading that is the same width (but has much wider track in front) and is les that two inches longer. It feels larger because of the 4 inch change in the wheelbase, which ups stabiltiy at the cost of the shorter wheelbase "liveliness". Try a 991.2 with rear wheel steering: best of both worlds.

Made me laugh.
I have turned down mo' money when I knew the trade-off was not worth it.
I can't ski so I related this to sailing and thought, "yes, I could have too much wind... even though it's exhilarating". As I said, clueless about 'fresh powder'
To OP: I related a lot to your list of 17 things. I really agree w/ most.

- Don't regret PDK at all; always had MT, time for a change and I wanted a track transmission. Maybe I shall hanker for my old MT in 6m?
- Sorry, if I had GT Silver I would have ordered red interior: big fan of red interiors as long as the exterior is not LOUD. My new 911 is loud so I went Schwarz - thought about graphite blue - so glad I didn't.
- Do miss the snarl.
- I agree the handling options can be OTT: I hope to find out their benefits on track, but I'm not saying I will be able to extract the value. Some, perhaps.
- With a light colour like GTS or LO or MB: the new black grill looks fab: in my view.
- If one is 6'3+, this is not too big a car: it's perfectly sized. This is 'my' 911. And RWS from the GT3/RS makes the wheelbase shrink somewhat.

I know what he means. When I drove the 997, I felt like I was wearing it. In and out of tight spaces, gaps in traffic, whatever. Not the same in the 991. Far bigger presence. I was driving behind a 928 a couple of weeks ago and proceeded to look up its specs. The 991 is nearly as big as the 928 to give you an idea about how much the 911 has grown over the years.

The 997's I drove felt great but we're too small for me.
Thanks for an honest review.

These types of comments crack me up (no offense!):
Having owned all 3 for more than 17 years in total, here's my version
993 - cozy, miata like wheel base with pogo stick weight transfer and tricky turn in dynamics at the limit. Limited leg room for 6' tall drivers. Trailing throttle oversteer can be fun, out handled by 350Zs
997 - Much improved over 996 in all ways, nice size, crashy suspension with better handling on front axle, so-so PASM with useless Sport mode, logging truck ride over all but smooth pavement
991 - Slightly wider feeling, finally balanced front/rear handling, modern ride quality on most roads with useful Sport + (SPASM option in my case), supercar handling far beyond prior generations. Slightly funny looking wider front end but great balanced sports car!
(In comparison the 991.1 is 9 full inches shorter than an M4, which is the definition of a GT car in my book!)
The past always seems rosier, but some progress is welcomed. I think Porsche's done a great job keeping the 911 hard edged but modern.
YMMV and standard disclaimers apply

I love the classic shape of the early 911s but wow, the 991 is such a beautiful, modern interpretation. I look at these photos and it just reminds me all over again how much I love the design of the 991. Such a beautiful car! Lines seem just perfect to me in every way. Simple, clean, and classic.

993 - gorgeous on the outside but 100% like a 911SC inside, soft suspension stock, too quiet exhaust stock, very linear engine that is (heresy) almost boring in terms of delivery... (and stupid immobilizer, squeaky windshield, coked up secondary air ports $$$ but now I digress)...
997 - Same loud tire noise and harsh ride as the 996
991 - much better turn in, closer to a cayman now. It does feel like a bigger car though, when I cross the golden gate bridge on the center lane near the barrier, I now check my mirrors to make sure the butt does not stick out more than the front ;-)

991 Carrera width- 71.2 in
997 Carrera width- 69.7 in

external difference 1.5 in
I am continually amazed how it looks a foot wider... to some. I suppose it carries over in the 991 from the increased room inside and not rubbing a knee acainst the stub of a center console in the 997 becaluse of the wat the one in the 991 is shaped despite the mini-Panamera style.
