Default Vinyl Bra?!

So--my C4 Black Edition is a lease--not sure if I am purchasing it at the end. Becuase of this, I did not purchase the xpel..So 3 months and 3000 miles later, I am noticing a few stone chips here and there (or maybe high speed bug scars, lol).

In anticipation of a 700 mile road trip planned later this week I bought a custom 2 piece bra from covercraft (think 1980's IROC Z) to mitigate the anticipated chips...from this trip

Here's the question--Do I remember correctly that if you get caught in the rain, you have to remove the bra (paint damage if you drive with it wet?).

Anyone use these old school vinyl bras any more? I had a lot of difficulty finding one and have yet to install it as I want to thoroughly wash and wax the car first...

All thoughts/opinions are appreciated...

Wow that brings back memories. Yes I would remove the bra when it rains. I've seen cases of the clear coat hazing when the bra is left on for extended periods and during moist periods. Have fun on your trip.

Yes, can confirm clearcoat hazing if you don't take it off when it's wet. I had this happen to my first Boxster.

So much better living in the clearbra age!

As someone who just spent the weekend working on my old 1986 911 to repair body and other damage due to a front bra, PLEASE do not use it. If you must use it, remove it when your car is stationary. The moisture that gets trapped under there will destroy the paint and more!

By the way, I clearbra'd a lease once...it's worth it seeing how picky Porsche is about every tiny defect on lease return.

Maybe you could apply a 'spray clear bra' like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/3M-90000-Paint-Defender-Spray/dp/B00BSKYM82 http://www.amazon.com/3M-90000-Paint-Defender-Spray/dp/B00BSKYM82

then put the vinyl bra over that...(I have never tried the spray bra, but have had a vinyl bra over my old car long time ago...it scratched up the front pretty badly)

Removing it when the car is moving would be a real bitch. ;-)

Or temporary XPel TracWrap.

I had this dilemma on my wife's X5M we just leased, ultimately decided to wrap the front end and rockers in XPel for peace of mind.

Fellow RL'r purchased the 50th and shipped a new vinyl bra to TX just before taking delivery. He then drove her to the West Coast. Alternative:https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9327...-tape-bra.html T

I've seen a few car (and human) bras on the side of the road over the years, so apparently it IS possible.

Tony--that looks like the covercraft I bought....so how did that vinyl bra hold up? Did it flap? Any issues?
