Default 991.2's with manual transmissions

To the new owners of 991.2's with manual transmissions, can you discuss how you like the gearbox and the clutch feel? I have read in a couple of places that they are slightly different than the manual in the 991.1, but is that really true? If so, why did they make a change and is the change for the better?

I'm definitely interested in hearing the responses to the OP! Just lost my 14 MT base 911 to a crash and looking at ordering a new C4S with MT.

I don't have a 991.2 yet but I believe (from what I have read) that the gears are taller to take advantage of the increased low end torque from the turbo and to improve mpg.

I don't like this at all.

I heard/read this too. I think it's gears 4-7? Not really sure though.

Taller?! Than what we have now? That's ridiculous. I hope the above poster is correct and it's only for higher gears; 1-3 are ridiculously long as is.

Yes. Taller gears in the 991.2. It was briefly written about in the February (?) issue of Pano, with the yellow 991 on the cover. Maybe 4-7 IIRC.

They also said the 7MT was excellent. Improved over the 991.1.

Based on the lack of feedback from owners of 991.2's with manual transmissions, it appears that they are as rare as unicorns. My C4S with a manual transmission is scheduled to arrive at the Port of San Diego on May 27th on the Mediterranean Highway. I am hopeful that I will find it meets or exceeds my expectations.

For what it's worth I love the one in my 991.1. There was a definite break in period, so it may take a little while to loosen up

Lost the N/A and now taller gears. What's next? Some we'll be pushing like the Flintstones.

Isn't the turbo itself actually air cooled?

No. Water cooled with an electric water pump, so you get cooling even when the car is sitting still.

You'll love it. The clutch is smoother, and while I didn't think I 'd like the auto engine shut off, it's quite cool in that when you depress the clutch, it restarts and the process is seamless. Plus on a hill, it won't let you roll back, whereby I had though you you'd have to use those handbrake release manoeuvres ( only with the elec. brake).
Shifts are smooth and it's nice to go to a higher speed in first gear ( for those occasions when the up shift wouldn't be warranted.)
Of course the awesome torque at lower rpm's is awesome.
I don't care what pdk lovers say... Yes on the Panny it is very nice, but for a true sports car, this has to be the best MT known to man.
